Communes I can visit during my travels

Help me and I will help you. I will be soon be leaving the state of Michigan to start my travels. I'll be making my my way west from here, taking my time, with no set route. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to let me come visit there communal living situation (home) for a few days? I'll be making a small documentary, but I can leave the camera out of my visit if thats what you prefer. I'm willing to work off my stay as I won't have much money to offer.
