It is a cause close to us, the organizers, as it has recently taken a loved one and threatens our family. This is no obscure pet cause. PKD is one of the most common, genetic life-threatening disease affecting 600,000 Americans and 12.5 million people worldwide. PKD affects more people than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, hemophilia and sickle cell anemia - combined. However, it is widely unknown, and as a result, the least funded of all of those diseases.Polycystic means "many cysts" form on each kidney, ultimately causing renal failure. There is no treatment and no cure, with dialysis and transplant as the only options to prolong life. If a parent has the disease there is a fifty percent chance it will be passed on to their children. We need your help to change that. These guys have hired me on to melt eyeballs and I love to see a good crowd. I know its a packed weekend, but this is a nice easy day trip and its for a good cause.
