    hey whaz up!
so glad i came across this site so we can hang.
so i've wanted dreads for like - forever and finally got them 2 weeks ago.
this girl i know sectioned them and backcombed them for me but they are SO freakn loose i keep freaking out that they aren't going to lock and that they are coming out. so can someone help and also tell me if this is normal or what to do? i have read so many conflicting things that now i'm so confused. if they are supposed to be loose for a while and that is normal, then i'll be cool but i don't wanna waste time if i need to be doing something else to them.

    thanks! ;)

thats completely normal....the first time i had dreads i worried about the same thing. Then all of a sudden one day they were locking. It really takes a long time for the process to work itself out.

ignore your hair for about 8 months and then you will start having locks. i know it is hard to not have it under control, but release control and just be patient. they will be loose, and no, rebackcombing is not a good idea.

I'd reccomend no aloe, wax, or anything, just frequent washing with dr. bronners.

But some people care about how they look.... So if you're one of them, then aloe. (Breaking my vanity was a big part of why I dreaded, and why I went neglect)

Aloe or Nopale slime work good if not some shoe glue would probably do the trick

when you put wax in your dreadlock it makes them look like they are dreaded but your hair needs to move around to actually dread....so its best if you dont use the wax.....even though they may not look like dreads now....they will.

Wax isnt really that bad, just dont use more than a tablespoon per dread and only wax once a month. The only thing I can say bad about wax is that it only makes your dreads perfect for a little while and it sucks when they become unperfect and you have to spend time waxing again

yea i did read in other threads how wax doesn't allow the hair to move so it sounds like wax could potentially drag the process along slower. i think i'm just gonna try to wait it out cause i want the outcome to be hot dreads ;) but what do u guys think of rubber bands to help it not unravel so much? does that keep the hair from moving around enuf also? good or bad?

get a jug, bicarbonate of soda (baking soda??), i put a pinch of sea salt, tea tree oil and sometimes orange essential oil. hot water, mixmixmix, pour on head :D leave it to soak (until my scalp burns a bit...) and rinse rinse rinse. its good for treating manky scalp issues - itchies, flakies etc. however, i wouldnt advise it on young locks as it tends to make your hair softer, and thus more likely to undread :)

ok sorry to blast u guys w/ questions but i have another one. if i wear my hear in a ponytail during the day will that prolong the process causing it to not get enuf movement?
