What is wrong with you? Why are you paying more than twice the price of something that tastes almost identical? I can understand people wanting to buy brand name clothing, even when the quality of lesser brands is the same, because of societal emphases on "status", but come on nobody's going to think less of you for drinking generic brand soda.

If people realized how seldom anyone else even gives any thought to them they might realize what an enormous waste of resources brand names really are- corporations concoct imaginary value in an intangible- like status or a god-damned logo and use that to justify the practice of price gouging.

The sad thing is that so many fall for it that the practice is big business. People just don't think.

I like the generic corn flakes. They're about a buck per box. The name brands are in the range of a few bucks per box and don't taste any different than generic. There isn't anything better health-wise in the ingredients of the name-brand version either.

Some tidbits of how the retail market works.

    http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20030420/ai_n11396717/

    Excerpt:

"The competition to get a product into a store is fierce. About 100,000 grocery items are available on the market, but a typical grocery store has room for about 40,000. In addition to slotting and other assorted fees, there are under-the-table payments as well, such as tickets to concerts or sporting events."

whats more interesting is what soda really costs.. If you see what my mom throws away, its only a week past its date, and back in the day, Soda didnt have expiration dates.. Is about production. Kinda like milk. you cant stop a cow from making milk, People need to drink it, or it gets tossed out!!!

I buy only brand name sodas. I actually do think you can taste the difference.

I don't consume very much soda but the kids like a pop and they each have ones they prefer.

I don't buy much pop, it's just for a treat...when I do it's usually President's Choice. There are some gross tasting generics out there, Cott Cola is revolting.

We buy store brand cereal, only name brands on sale.
