saw and posted on a similar thread on another forum. thought it would be a cool idea and great way to rant for a lot of us. i'll start.

-people who cannot formulate a rational or reasonable argument
-the prevalency of individuals that are social conservatives and economic libertarians or conservatives
    - closed-minded people that stonewall others in a debate or conversation
    - grumpy old people that accuse you of acting a certain way and are acting the same way
    - the constant stream of pundits who do the same on TV
    - the redneck culture
    - the gangsta culture
    - the conservative suburbanite superiority complex
    - small children
    - the overabundance of people who dont want to examine and analyze things contantly and have a very minimal ability to utilize critical thinking and analytical skills
    - people who hold tradition in substantially higher regard than research and science dictate
    - people without common sense
    - i suppose this holds true of most places, if not all, but the large number of people that don't know how to treat disabled persons
    - the lack of easy access to places from suburbia, yet everything is biased toward outer suburban living
    - the drinking age
    - US drug policy in general
    - how we're fine with the above, yet how we have marketed things like cigarettes to less-developed countries (think colombia, where apparently the smoking rate is really high) and are ok with this, yet we make them pay for them doing the same thing, albeit with a different drug (in this case, cocaine) or other product.
    - how we live to work, as opposed to the work to live ethic in many european countries
    - how if you refuse to believe that the US is always number one, people will hold this against you- even if you have good intentions and are trying to bring attention to a problem or problems
    - how we are a fear-based culture, and would rather have our fears backed up by lies than be relieved by the truth, yet we complain constantly about the former
    - the shit standard of living in cities vs suburbia as opposed to in other industrialized countries, and, once again, the suburbanite superiority complex and lack of desire for tangible change that reflects this in some ways (although this is changing to some extent)
    - lack of easy healthy eating options, and the easy availability of pitifully unhealthy food
    - the atypical abundance of people who cannot spend money wisely
    - asshole christan fundamentalist evangelicals

Everything in the op plus the media. It pretends that it's portrayals of american life are accurate and that it speaks on behalf of the majority. Bullshit!

People who's perceptions of America are based on the media. People who complain about it incessantly yet have never traveled here. People who think it's great but have never traveled outside the US.

How all public issues are wrapped in a false left right dichotomy, and anything which can't easily fit into there is dismissed.

what I do is. put this on. jump some rope, even if you dont have rope you can "pretend".. and I then dont worry so much ..

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhlPAj38rHc"]YouTube- Rocky theme song

and you can pretend not to worry so much to, take charge of you.. makes no difference what the world does..

or you might wanna start a model train in the basement, where you can build your own city, and towns.. Then nuke it with the flame thrower you brought back home from Vietnam..

It would be a shorter list of what we like...which is SAD!

I gues I only have a problem with our laws and real people they protect, cause its not us. As far as other people in America, I will post lyrics about people!
    There's always people
Who'll put a smile on your face
    There's always people
Make you feel out of place
    There's always people
Make you feel right at home
    There's always people
No matter where you roam - Cross Canadian Ragweed

if you wanna pay for everything.. and buy me a car thats environmentally safe.. okay.

but i happen to enjoy riding my bicycle..

i do not happen to enjoy moron drivers on their phone, not using their turn signals, speeding up to turn right right in front of me, honking at me, yelling at me, telling me to get a car, driving extremely close to me, giving me nasty looks, staring at me or them not understanding they need to share the road.

i like(d) the short school days/ week, the comparative affluence, and some of the people. also in some places, the disabled aren't treated in an awkward or significantly inferior manner.

i'm not sure how much else i can think of on that note though...

i'd say the well-implemented separation of church and state, but my locale and certain national political figures have blown that one to hell. but seriously, other than the religious right, we do do that pretty well and reasonably.

    -People stuck in the 1950s

-Women with "grand prize mentality" (Essentially those who think that men are supposed to treat them like gold, but are not inclined to reciprocate)

-People who rely on others to tell them who they are, how they should look, talk, act, think, etc.

-People who do not realize that their country is not always right.

-Lack of individual accountability. Treating one group based on the actions of their worst (Minorities, Muslims, Homeless people)

-A general lack of honor and integrity among americans.

-america not minding america's business (now america is instigating trouble in the Yellow and China Seas... Apparently americans have not learned from Iraq and Afgan. )

    .......

I didn't particularly enjoy my time in California. I did like visiting Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Montana, and Wyoming.

I would like to do a bike tour from New England to the deep south.

Also, I don't particularly like how much old growth forest has been clear cut.

the bubble mentality: we live in our own little world and most americans never even leave the country. what kinda shit is that?!

to be honest i think a lot of the complaints on people's lists are just bitter personal experiences that could have occured in any country.

-The INSANE amount of debt college grads graduate with, in comparison with almost all other first world (and even many 2nd and 3rd world) countries. We, the college grads, are supposed to be this countries future, but with all this debt how is that possible?

-Going along with that, the bailout of many banks and corporations and (greedy) business men. But of course they couldn't throw the University students a bone! For some of my friends who have recently graduated, it is a choice of rent and food or rent and loan payment, or worse. Truly a terrible state of affairs for a "first world" country.

-Obsession with security. Having to take off your shoes at airports, full body scanners, etc. I have been out of the country for 18 months and I am glad I have not had to deal with any obnoxious BS like this at airports. It has gotten to the point where you are no longer innocent until proven guilty, but guilty until proven innocent in the states at the airports. All logic and reason has been thrown out the door these procedures. China is less painless, though still somewhat obtrusive, but to a lesser extent than the states of course. I have taken 7-8 domestic flights within China, no major problems.

-I have had no problems walking anywhere in China. I can walk through anyones property without so much as a glance, anyone can do this. Hell, I have been invited into strangers homes for a cup of tea while wandering around the country side in various parts of China. Try that in some parts America and risk having a shot gun pulled on you. This would never happen in China. Americans are not as inviting to strangers. Not that I expect to be invited in, but just let me pass! Sometimes I am just someone passing by, trying to enjoy the scenery as I go, and I mean no harm. Chinese people are way more relaxed and don't care if someone walks within feet of their house as they pass by. Americans will tell you to "fuck off" or will do drastic things like get a gun.

-How uptight police are, even in regards to petty crimes. It is real easy to settle things privately with people if a crime is committed in China. The police don't even want to waste much effort on petty crime and prefer it if you can settle quickly with the person in question. I did something bad in China, broke someones property after a heated exchange. I paid them 90 USD or so, with the help of the policemen who acted as the middle man, and nothing more. I was on my way in less than 45 minutes. In America this would be a long drawn out process and may result in jail time, etc. The other party in question, would probably be more uptight too over the damaged property.

-I have felt so safe in China these first 18 months. I am actually afraid to go back to any city in America in the next year or so. By first world standards, I think it is the most violent, dangerous country, and even more dangerous than some 2nd (Korea) and 3rd world countries (China).

-It seems everything always needs to be bigger.

-The women, for the most part. Ugh. I honestly think Chinese women, overall, tend to respect their men more than American women and their mans happiness is very important too.

-Iran. People are so ignorant about this topic.

-How expensive things are. Just basic commodities. My mom was telling me the price of food items, and compared with where I am now, HOLY CRAP are Americans paying up the ass for food. No real reason why though.

-The whole PUA culture or whatever the hell it is...Pathetic. Please please please don't let this shit hit Asia.

-You can't do something harmless like drink a beer by the pier or have a romantic picnic with wine in the park. America is way to uptight with alcohol.

-It seems nothing has been done to help the jobless. Even recent college grads struggle.

-oh, and not that I support the Death penalty, I certainly do not and hate that America has it. But if you are going to do it, do it right! Learn from China, they don't mess around! Between being found for a heinous crime and being put to death, probably no more than 2-3 weeks go by. Jesus! Speed that shit up if you are going to do it!

Most of the reasons that allot of people listed can be found through out the world. They also vary in different parts of the US.

The federal government is one thing I don't like, and how they are stepping further and further into our lives.

Exactly what I said earlier. I am especially offended by the comments about American women. Just a bunch of dickless losers with bad taste in women making those comments.

This in no way should be confused with me supposedly having pro-american sentiments. I am a big dissenter.

What Myself and Ponygirl said is so true. It seems like a lot of people have a sense of false universalism in this thread.
