Honestly, I don't think it gets much better than this. I know I haven't listened to 'ALL' the metal out there, obviously. None of us have. but from what I HAVE heard and lived by, really nothing quite cuts it like Maiden and Metal Church, Rainbow, Priest, and Sabbath, etc etc. Its godly. All the times I've heard these songs and albums and bands; still not enough. Bring me the classics any day!
I like Sabbath and Metal Church, but I need more thrash. Give me some Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth as well and I'm much happier.
Bullshit. What, because they don't dark images they aren't metal? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6x8GGXrCFQ"]YouTube- DEEP PURPLE - LAZY - LIVE 1972 MACHINE HEAD TOUR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP4xfqHVu18"]YouTube- Are You Happy - Iron Butterfly I rest my case.
Dont rest quite yet. The one thing I hate above all other metal pretensions is people saying that those "bluesy" hard rock bands from the late sixties classify as metal, because there are so many examples from that era of bands that were making a progression beyond the bounds of rock and roll, that were actually metal. I'm saying there was definitely metal bands from that long ago, but they sounded more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FnvxhMD_4o"]YouTube- graveyard - Satan's Finest - Graveyard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVVA_aM0LwU&feature=related"]YouTube- Bedemon - Frozen Fear Now you tell me, what's metal about some jangly, pop-ish psychedelic?
Ritchie Blackmore was using a lot of classical modes and scales well outside the scope of blues in Deep Purple. You could even go so far as to say he set the template for alot of the 70's and 80's metal.
No, the reason that Iron Butterfly isnt metal is because their style sounds like Chuck Berry on acid. It's not an evolution beyond rock and roll, and it's not even heavy. Listen to this, and think about what metal is: YouTube- pentagram - walk in the blue light btw, Let's leave Deep Purple aside, because they won their case already.
I am thinking that this is fucking METAL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUCGHuwF758"]YouTube- Iron Butterfly - Gentle As It May Seem Live Bootleg
Hey, we could just go on repeating ourselves over and over again, but that would get boring. It's not metal, at all. In any conceivable way.
I googled "Iron Butterfly" and "metal": "It is widely believed that the term 'heavy metal' was coined to describe the less than delicate sound of Iron Butterfly, a band vilified when they first emerged and still not accorded the respect they deserve." How aren't they metal? Strong beats, big and bad solos, distortion, loud, heavy, strong rhythms, etc..
