It only becomes a problem if you think there is a difference between the members of the dialogue in your mind. As long as you understand that you are talking to you, it's ok. Then it is just acoustic manifestation of cerebral words.

If you are talking to voices only you can hear, then perhaps. But, I talk to myself all the time and I'm fine..

If you just do it a bit it's fine, like if you are looking for a something and say "where the hell did I put...." then that's fine, but if you're actually having a conversation with yourself then you should be worried.

There’s nothing wrong with talking to yourself as long as there isn’t a response

    I talk to myself.

I also talk to the other person who is in my head.

Am I mentally ill? I guess it depends on who you ask. I've been to various counselors about various things, and so far none have said I was delusional. But what the hell do they know?

My mom talks to stuffed bears, and she makes the bears talk back. I think I'll have her committed...

If you find yourself arguing with yourself, I think it might just be a problem. If not then mutter away. :)
