i've had my dreads for about six months. I've already begun to take some of them out, because my head has been constantly itchy and flaky no matter how much i take care of my locks. I've been unmotivated and frustrated with them, because of the state of my hair and the fact that i dont feel i'm representing myself as a rasta enough to give locks a good name. So i impulsively combed a few out which surprisingly didn't do any damage to my hair after conditioning it. Should i continue unlocking my hair or is there something i'm missing that will make me have beautiful smooth locks

but just for the fun of it...

since you are "rasta" i am assuming you neglected your hair and it started to mat and form knots, right? if not, consider looking into your religious choices a bit further.

you are correct in your asumption that you are not representing rasta. rasta doctrine does not encourage combing or cutting of the hair. by impulsively combing and worrying about how they look, you are going against rasta doctrine.

this is not a nipple piercing, your hair can't reject locks. you rejected your locks.

Sick of you thinking you know everything <3. Everyone knows a transplant from a kin stops your hair rejecting dreads. The family that dreads together, don't experience rejection. luls

you either have patience and stick through the negative bullshit, should you subconsciously choose that you need to label it like that for your own mind, or you just stick to it regardless and realise that all it really takes is time. in my own honest opinion mine started lookin ok at the 2 year mark give or take a few months, and it always seemed situational thus i never quite understood if it really was the general vibe or just my own view, its been like 3 years 2 months now and theyre still a wild ass mess and can look rather crappy in certain situations, but thats about all of the negative i can squish out minus a few weird issues, everything else is just pure love...uh rambling here but point is, you either have patience or you dont. you either regret like hell in [insert time] or jump around with insane nattyness in some years

    *sigh*

You said you had itching and flakiness no matter how you took care of your locs. Did this taking care involve washing? If so what did you use and how often?

FWIW I think there's a bunch of misunderstanding and jumping to conclusions in this thread. She said she needed someone to convince her there's a WAY. That coupled with her OP being written like she's tried a variety of things and still has itchiness and flakiness and I think she's just trying to get some new options for how to fix her hair. Natural fan or not, I'm sure we can all agree dandruff is not attractive.

Fair enough. However, brushing it out was not a good way to start. I'm sure she tried, but maybe acv wash would help.

True. I just think she brushed them out because she can't figure what else to do.
