Well, maybe things are different over there. Flip flops aren't associated with gayness or homophobia over here, nor are they generally considered "dorky". (I certainly wouldn't consider the Canadians I know who wear them gay or dorky).
For warm weather (that might be the key point here :p) they're perfectly practical for what most people want to use them for.

Whilst you will get a bit of dirt on your soles, they won't go black, and amazingly enough it's not the end of the world if they aren't pristine.
For the record, I'm an occasional barefooter, not that that changes matters.

Almost all shoes use urethane in the sole, real rubber is too expensive. I believe its the breakdown of said cheap urethane by skin oils/ acidic sweat that causes the nastiest of stinkfoot.

When I'm not barefoot I wear 100% leather shoes. (Italian loafers).:D

barefoot in iowa likes trolling, both in real life and on forums, for the purpose of feeling wronged or vindicated. I find it unlikely that there was no other factor in this, such as rudeness towards library staff before hand, or a history of causing problems.

I know! A lot of other people do too! I just found it a bit excessive for them to come and talk to me when my shoes was at least partially on my feet. Oh well.

Thank you for your responsible comment. It is shameful that some posters can not post in a rational and civilized manner.

    Cheers!

Whether thats true or not, I do not appreciate any of us being attacked by some 19 year old looking to attack one person. As far as I am concerned he can wander off and insult other people on other threads. The kid and his friends are unbelievably immature and insulting.....sorry, I used big words.

OK, obviously I have the power to make certain individuals loose their composure and dignity over a simple post. It can not be denied. Look at some of the responses to a simple observation that has been observed time and time again. So maybe it is a good idea for these people to ignore anything I post in the future because if merely posting an observation is trolling, I don't want to enjoy your experience on the forum. I am not going away, and I will continue to make responsible and enlightened posts. Like I stated earlier, followers need a leader, and if you feel the need to follow me then I will not try to stop you or entertain you with debate. Thanks to all who have helped make this a constructive rather than a destructive thread.

    Cheers!

"Us" being... barefooters? Chinese? Whatever group you identify with that barefooted in iowa claims to be a part of, they are only disgracing you and making you look like illiterate attention seekers. You are an easy target group, because you feel under attack and will stand up for group members, and because of that tendency towards attack, it's also easy for trolls in your group to have "waah, they hurt mah butt" stories.

I do not appreciate you trying to make assumptions about me based on my age. Are you saying I could not possibly grasp the depth of your decision to be better than me and not wear shoes because I am only nearing the peak of my mental acuity(As opposed to years past it, as your attitude places my best guesses for your age)? Can you clarify this a bit?

"it can not be denied." Is not a valid free standing sentence, try again.

"Look at some of the responses to a simple observation that has been observed time and time again." Can you clarify this please? as it currently stands, it needs some context, and has some redundant words.

"because if merely posting an observation is trolling, I don't want to enjoy your experience on the forum" That's ok, because we are not the same individual, you enjoying my experience is not an option, and never was.

"I am not going away, and I will continue to make responsible and enlightened posts" You have yet to show any enlightenment of any sort, and have shown that you have no clue what responsibility is.

"I will not try to stop you or entertain you with debate" That's just fine with me, you are a rather entertaining person without trying :D

"Thanks to all who have helped make this a constructive rather than a destructive thread" Echoing words your shrink likes doesn't make you sound learned if you have no comprehension of exactly what part of that situation made that word choice appropriate for said shrink.

    Have a nice day :D

When you say "us" are you referring to the Hip Forum community as a whole or just the "bare-footers" ? (hate to use that term, it erroneously pigeon holes people)

I think that the elitist attitude portrayed by the OP and some other in this thread is what elicits some of the responses.
What have you got to be elitist about?
Because you choose not to wear shoes, then want to complain and make an issue of it when business's deny you entry based on their policy's, most of which are about insurance liability more than any thing else, and act as if you were Christians being led to the arena. If you make a choice, be mature enough to accept the consequences of that decision.

I personally only have issue with that elitist attitude, not your choice of whether your feet are shod or not. Get a clue, that is what most of the detractors in this thread are picking up on. I'm willing to bet nobody here gives two cents about what you do or don't wear. But don't approach me with some "better than you" attitude because you don't wear shoes, that is just laughable.
You choose not to wear shoes, big fucking deal. I choose to wear shoes, big fucking deal. I'm no better than you based on my clothing choice, choice of hairstyle or any other external appearance based choices, and vice versa.
    :)

I urge other responsible posters to stay on topic, and to not allow our forum to turn into a circus. There are some who have taken to the divide and conquer strategy. It can not be denied. However, wise and prudent judgment, along with neighborly demeanor must prevail. This can not be denied. I used to think it was possible to change people for the better, but it is not possible to reason with people who are filled with vitriol and hatred. These things are evident on this thread. This can not be denied. Again, I thank responsible and prudent posters. If others would like to join myself and the other prudent and insightful posters for a thought provoking conversation, we will always be here.

    Cheers and Zai Jian!

Heard this on the radio and thought of this thread.:p

"I blew out a flipflop, stepped on a poptop.
I broke my leg twice, had to limp on back home."

But as long as we're all kissing ass about being barefoot, we're fast allies! Come on, all serious, principled barefooters know this:D

For any who have missed one of the main points of this thread:

If it is ok for some people to go into the library completely barefoot without an eyebrow being bat, it is insulting to be talked to for having my feet at least partially in my shoes. And for those who are trying to say "shame on you because you are just trying to make a statement"... So shame on Dr. Martin Luther King for standing up for the right thing. Shame on Malcom X as well. Shame on Huey Newton and Bobby Seale and Stokley Carmichael? Shame on the Mexicans who have a right to be in this country thanks to the 14th amendment. How dare them think that they should be treated as equals. This same thing that happened at the library has happened at 2 stores as well. This is 2010 folks, not 1950. I know some people have a tough time dealing with that, but "we" are not afraid and "we" (at least I) will not sit by and be treated any differently than any other person.

    Cheers!
