Boy, 14, suspected of starting LA-area wildfire SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — A 14-year-old boy has been booked on arson charges after deputies said he confessed to accidentally starting a 40-acre wildfire north of Los Angeles as he was trying to smoke marijuana. LA County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker says two 14-year-old boys from Saugus were detained just after the fire that briefly threatened about 50 homes was knocked down Sunday afternoon. Parker says one of the boys was released after the other boy said he started the fire when he dropped a barbecue lighter as he was trying to light a pot pipe. Parker says the second boy had showed up shortly after the fire started and tried to help put it out, but the two boys fled when they couldn't control it. Their names were withheld because of their age. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say four people have been arrested in connection with a 40-acre wildfire that briefly threatened homes north of Los Angeles, including two juveniles suspected of arson. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker says the two arson suspects were arrested just after the fire was contained Sunday afternoon. And he says a 33-year-old man and another juvenile – a 16-year-old boy – were arrested for allegedly interfering with firefighters. Parker says Santa Clarita residents reported seeing the two arson suspects just south of where the fire originated. He had no further details on their ages or identities. Parker says the two suspected of obstructing firefighters were not connected to each other. But he says each stood dangerously close to the fire, refused to leave the area, prevented helicopters from dropping water, and had to be rescued before they were arrested.
This is less of an argument of "why kids shouldn't smoke pot" and more of an argument of "why kids should stop being careless and be more mindful"
So he's saying his bbq grill lighter stayed lit when he dropped it on the ground and it started the fire? That sounds like BS, I'm pretty sure on almost all of those lighters that you have to keep the button pushed or the flame dies. They were probably just stoned and acting like idiots lighting shit on fire.
Yea, I'm pretty sure you need to hold in the trigger. Your last sentence is probably closer to the truth of the matter.
I can see the safety on some cheap-ass Chinese crack lighter sticking open...But, yeah, I can see boys being stoned & stoopid, too. I am, after all, a teenager in recovery.
lol. They didnt do anything worse than I did when I was a kid. The only diffefence is I didnt get caught.
Death is so right, there are plenty of things I've done that I'm not exactly proud of...anymore lol, luckily I didn't have to pay any consequences for them though Funny they told the cops they were trying to smoke weed and it was an accident, they must have been really high when that happened, who admits to doing something terribly destructive in the process of doing something else that's illegal, even if it is California
^ +1 I lit shit on fire for fun with I was 10-12 then I started lighting dried plant material for fun.
why there is a hole in the Ozone... STAR -- Investigators say the 15-year-old boy from Star that was pulled out of a pond and later died, was huffing freon prior to the drowning... I have to lol at this chick .. "i did everything to get him to stop doing it?".... Maybe a blow job would of worked...
My friend pulled the same shit when we were 15.. We were smoking, and he was fuckin around lighting grass on fire, but it was really dry out and it spread to more than we could handle. The diffrence is.. We called the cops and stuck around, so we didn't get arrested for arson. And we didn't tell them we were smoking, we said we were messing around and trying to start a Bon fire, not relizing how dry out it was. So.. Pretty much nothing happened at all
When I was in high school (my school was out in the country) I drove to a back road with these three shit-heads. One brought out a joint and the three of them started smoking it, I didn't really smoke in high school. Anyways one pitched the roach and started to playfully light some tall grass. Nothing caught fire. An hour later I'm back in school and I'm sitting in english class looking out the window and I see clouds of smoke coming from the field we were sitting it. There happened to be a fire house about one kilometer up the road. After about 10-15 minutes I see three or four fire engines speed by, sirens blaring and they turn down that road towards the field...
hahahhahaha I tried to rep you for that, but it wouldn't let me As far as the fire/lighter goes, I think most of you are right when you say they were just setting shit on fire. It doesn't seem likely at all that the flame would've kept burning. Even if the trigger stuck, the fall would've blown out the flame on the lighter. Of course, we've all done stupid things; many of them much worse than whatever those kids were doing. The only difference here is that it got out of their control. These kids have yet to learn that you can do something stupid without doing it stupidly
I will let my kids smoke when they're that age....but not run off to smoke alone or with their knuckleheaded friends, so daddy can keep an eye on them and make sure that they do not do something stupid stupidly.
well, the same kids that run the street with BB guns here, are always lighting something on fire.. and smoking cigarettes too , they are 8 to 12 yr old... their parents must be so proud.
those were the things that I did when I was that age. I didnt have a BB gun, though. I only had a pack a day habit
