What are the long term health effects of taking shrooms? Does it cause any mental conditions like schizophrenia if used rarely?

Well like any psychedelic they can exacerbate any pre-existing mental conditions. So if you're highly at risk or already have schizophrenia or psychosis then yes it is possible for shrooms to trigger a mental break. I wouldn't say that they cause shizophrenia though, in that they are not fully responsible. There has to be some underlying problem to begin with. There's also a risk of developing HPPD.
But with responsible use and with the proper set and setting, I believe most people should be good to go!
(If anyone has info to the contrary, then PLEASE let me know)

They tend to cause revelations of thought, and can therefore alter your perception of the world. This is usually, but not always, in positive or neutral ways.

Mushroom use can elicit temporary or permanent changes in your perception of reality. Some of these changes can be beneficial, others are delusions. The link between psychedelics and mental illness is weak. Usually psychedelics do not cause mental illness in average healthy users. People genetically predisposed to mental problems via realatives should take caution.
