ok, i need to vent, but give this a chance.

Do you think sex is overly prevalent in mainstrem media? Granted sex does sell, but I doubt most people get as much sex as characters in movies and sitcoms right?
Heres my thoughts. I think sex has over the years become the main punch factor for many television shows, but as we increase in technological developments and evolve as a species, am I right in thinking sex will incresingly become less sought after as we strive for our own personal goals and ambitions? especialy with our reliance on other stimuli and the isolation that we all feel while living in overpopulated cities.

I know I am not alone in being involuntary celibate and I have no doubt that others feel this frustration.

Think about this. Native Europeans are decreasing in population, the only reason Europes population increases is beacuse of imigrants from non-westernised countries who have limited access to shows such as 'how i met your mother' and 'american pie'

It seems to me the desire for physical pleasure has overridden the desire for love and family making.
Idk, I would really like to know other peoples opinions on this.

You probably wouldn't think about it so much if you were getting laid.

    P.S.

Exaclty. I think about it so much becuase I am a virgin who will probably never be intimate for various reasons.

How about this: A sitcom featuring an asexual male and his flatmate who persistenly seeks sexual encounters with a female friend who refuses because she has stds he dosent know about. Also featuring a hermaphrodite whos only ambition is to find another hermaphrodite so he/she can fuck him/her and jerk him/her off at the same time.

    yup.

    Which mainstream media?

Frankly I have no problem with sex (or casual nudity, etc) in the media, (well, where it isn't used as a cheap replacement for actual content).
I'd rather have that than mindless violence and hatred, which seems to be the norm in the media in some areas (the US for example).

I don't think that the demand for sex in the media will decrease with time, if anything it will increase as old taboos drop out of fashion.

the reason birth rates in europe and other wealthy places are low is because they are rich. family making was not this idealized love thing that you think, people had children so that the children could work to support the family. or they had children b/c their religion/culture didn't allow contraception and planned parenting.

Sex is boring. All the tv shows and movies run the same sexual type of shows, scenes, acts, characters and sexualities. Fuck off. That shits boring. And it all stems from the "keep it real" attitude. Mainstream media isn't anything. The music is nothing, no one can relate to what them barbie dolls and their stories of fake love and fake sex and the sad thing is everyone else seems to need to feed from it that you're all making these pointless artists with nothin good to say more rich and more popular and for what? So some we can watch some 16 year old MTV flash her stuff? Ugghh. I'm sick of "keepin' it real" that ain't entertainment. You want to hear about shit that people really do, sing a song, you washed your balls today woooo.. Yeh that's really dope but nobody gives a shit about what you do in every day life so don't sing it.

    I don't think it's overly prevalent enough.

Sex is one of about 4 primary motivations people have. It's the thing which makes our species survive, and probably the most important things we'll do with our lives, unless we become a doctor or something.

I watch zero TV and read zero magazines and stuff, so I wouldn't know. The most I'll do is watch youtube videos for my mainstream media consumption (edit: and download movies from torrents). Although, I have watched a lot of porn over the years and I am now trying to stop that, as well, to enhance my sexual appetite for the real thing, lol.

Overly prevelant, yes. With the statement that it is what people wish to see. The demand is there and in order to sell or market, sex is a very large part of the plots.

It rarely needs to be included to have the story told but if it was not included the story in all likehood would not be told as it could not be sold to a market.

I watched a movie last week and it was the first movie I have seen in a long time that I thought afterwards it was a real family type of movie (The Blind Side). I would of sat and watched this with my kids when they were really young and not worried about it. There are very few movies today that I can say the same thing about.

I have no issue with sex being a large part of a story line but wish there was a little more balance in that more was available that was not written that way.
