Last time I was on here was to do with dreads, and I have since cut them off sadly. I am, however, much more spiritually in tune and have started having serious questions about joining the rat race which society so wants to immerse me in. I'm working on a degree in the UK, but will be moving back to America soon. I've made several friends here who live on the road. Converting buses and vans into homes seems to be rather popular over here. I really do think, despite the potential hardships, that I'd enjoy life a lot more on the road with complete freedom. I've been looking at a dirt cheap diesel station wagon back home, which would comfortably sleep one. It might not be as hardcore as a van, but it'd get great fuel mileage and I could potentially convert it to run on french fry grease. I'm really looking forward to fixing it up.

    So here's the real question:
How do I not starve to death on the road? I know I'll need to use ingenuity and wits, but I'm just not sure what sources of income I can find while travelling around. All of my work experience so far has been manual labor, and I certainly don't mind doing more of that. I also will be done with an MA in the History of Political Thought. This fall I will hopefully be fine tuning my Spanish so that I'll at least be conversational. Other than that, i'm going to finally learn to play my guitar, but I think it'll be a looong time before I have the skills to actually play anything for money. I'd love to hear from any of you who have lived on the road or who have good friends on the road. I've also thought of Wwoofing, which would be nice in terms of a warm bed and food, but I definitely need to find a way to make at least some money.

This is a real turning point in my life, and I know the decisions I make will have huge effects on the rest of my destiny. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Best,
    James
