How do you feel about Christianity being used as justification to persecute and even kill homosexuals? How do you feel about masturbation? How do you feel about the Bible condemning masturbation and homosexuality?
Fundamentalist Christians https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qmglGWMsdk"]YouTube- It Seemed So Plausible
I believe this summerizes all Christians' beliefs on the subject. This should clear up any questions you have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fUhHmwPxsY"]YouTube- Talking with the God Hates Fags people part 1a /thread
3:03 "God put it (hate) in their hearts." This would mean that god makes it so that his own children (people) will inherently hate other people, their own brothers and sisters. What ever happened to love thy fellow man? This sounds like a very confused god.
I don't understand Christians like that. Once they can no longer defend their shitty argument they just quit the conversation. Also, he goes on about Jesus dying. If Jesus didn't die (according to his religion) people would not have been relieved of sin and therefore everyone would go to hell. So shouldn't he at least understand that it was necessary for Jesus to die?
You would think so, but fundi's tend to be rambling idiots. I'm kind of sad that none of them hang out here.. The ones that've shown up have quickly disapeared.
I'm incredibly glad there seems to be none here. If there were I would have been banned long ago. Fundamentalist Christians like the one in that video are the one single thing that I can't tolerate unlike anything else. My blood boils when I talk to them. They make no sense whatsoever and they're always so belligerent and stubborn when you question them.
Lol... I rather enjoy talking to them. I used to be one (I mean.. Till I was 16 and relized it was all a bunch of horse shit) so I pretty much destroy all of their arguments and leave them huddled in a corner with their ears plugged and their eyes closed screaming "GOD IS REAL! GOD IS REAL!!" over and over again. But I see how you would feel that way. :sifone:
Let's face it, it's easy to point fingers at the abuses of organized religion. However, the fact that somebody or a group of people do things and say they are doing those things in the name of God, Jesus, love, success, career, freedom, democracy, etc. doesn't make it so. In my case, I grew up in a not very religious Jewish family and knew nothing about Jesus. I was probably past the age of 30 before I realized that Easter was a religious holiday; I thought it was about the Easter Bunny and colored eggs. At some point, I became much more interested in such things as history, philosophy, religion, spirituality, the nature of consciousness, utopian communities, unconditional love and so on. My studies had me study the teachings the Buddha, Jesus and other spiritual icons. I was blown away, and I still am. From what I can tell, Jesus was a very righteous dude who was talking about some truly amazing and powerful things. I came to the conclusion that he also had a great sense of humor, and it wouldn't suprise me if he was a stoner. He was definitely coming from a very high place. Many true believer types seem to be fixated on how he died, and they don't pay much attention to how he lived or what he was talking about. Unfortunately, as is the case with many other things, his teachings have been corrupted by many scumbags, hypocrites and assholes who do things and claim they do it in His name. Hey, I can beat my wife or kick dogs (I don't do those things) and claim I'm doing it in the name of love, but I'm still a jerk. Organized religions have done many horrible things, no question about that. I've been a member of several atheist forums, and, after examining every piece of atheist rhetoric and all the crap about how the "new atheism" is about clear-thinking and rationality, I find that I can punch holes in everything they have to say. I think Jesus was cool, and I have no problem with gay people or gay marriage. I think masturbation is a normal thing to do. I think some people give love a bad name. I think evolution happened and is still happening. What I'm saying is that many of you think you know Jesus, but you might consider taking another look. Maybe it's because I grew up in a bad part of town, but I like to hang in and fight the good fight. Instead of pointing fingers, if any of you would actually want to talk about Jesus, I'll hang in with anybody. "Do not suppose I came to bring peace, but, rather, a sword..."
Duck, OK, let's talk about this whole subject with possible begining scenarios. Does anybody have to accept the Adam & Eve story as historical fact in order to believe in God? No, and I don't. What is true is that every culture has some kind of begining/creation story, and that's the one we get. Those people who insist that God created everything out of whole cloth about 6000 years ago are, by me, an embarassment, but they are not going to go away any time soon. The fact that some people are out-to-lunch doesn't prove that God does or does not exist. As a young man, I was a math and science whiz, and I do my best to keep up with the latest theories and findings. I'm more than willing to believe the Big Bang happened something like 13.7 billion years ago, and, assuming that's true, let's consider the following two possibilities: 1-The Big Bang happened, and everything that has transpired since that event, including our own existences, is just the result of a rather amazing serious of accidents and random, purposeless events. Science cannot prove that this is true or untrue. 2-The Big Bang happened, and everything that has transpired since that event, including our own existences, has some kind of intelligence/intention/deliberateness behind it. If we consider such things as the relationship of the Earth, Moon and Sun to each other, the ratio of land mass to water on our planet, the force of gravity, we must recognize that all these things (accidents?) have resulted in the optimum conditions for a multitude of lifeforms to exist. According to scientists, even the location of the planet Jupiter is optimum for catching comets and other objects that could make like on Earth impossible. Yet another rather amazing "accident." Science cannot prove that this is true or untrue. By me, it takes a much greater leap of faith to believe that everything, including the fact that we exist, is the result of accidents, random events, lucky breaks, etc. I can back my "beyond a reasonable doubt" case with other examples for the sciences, and we can also consider history, philosophy, the Jesus story and lots of other things. I look forward to hearing from you!
I private message this guy and he responds in two separate threads -- how am I supposed to debate across three venues?
Duck, You're a guy who has almost 16,000 posts on this forum, and you're having trouble figuring out something that's relatively simple? I tell you what, if you want to talk about your book, let's do that on the other thread that deals with your writing. If we're going to talk about God, theism vs atheism, Jesus, cosmology and all that other stuff, let's do it on this thread. If we're going to have this discussion, I don't want to do it with PMs; I rather have everybody who is interested be able to participate. Is that all right with you?
Um... you're the one that responded to my PM in my manuscript thread =S But that sounds like a nifty plan you have there.
