I have had coldsores before but i take care of them and dont get them too often anymore because i was born with them. lastnight i ate my girlfriend out and didnt have any sores. the next morning i woke up with one inside my mouth. me and my girlfriend are scared she may have herpes. is there anyway to test this or should we wait a few weeks to see if she has an outbreak. if so what should we do to be more safe.
Clinic is actually not gonna help at this stage. She either caught it or not. HSV 1 is the virus that causes cold sores. It is a very powerful virus, medically known as the "Evasive Intruder" since it hides itself very well behind neurological cells to avoid enemies "anti-bodies and anti-virals". HSV can occur either facially and around the mouth or in the genital and rectal area, but however, its type never switches to the other. HSV1 for example occurs originally in the facial area, but it can be transmitted from an infected person to the genital area of another. However, it remains type 1 that just happened to infect the genital area. Type 2 exists originally in the genital / rectal area, but still can infect someone orally, yet remains as type 2. Unfortunately there is nothing much you can do, provided that more than a few hours have passed since the potential exposure. Otherwise strong disinfectants i.e. Dettol could've been used immediately to minimize the risk significantly. Let's hope she did not catch it, and you have to be cautious in the future, and she also has to be psychologically prepared in the event she has contracted HSV now in the future. Having sexual activities knowingly with an HSV+ person implies the acceptance of the transmission possibility. This virus is really powerful in transmission, like HEP C and HPV, and unlike HIV.
