Letchworth, Little Rock City is nice although no swimming, Evengola is very nice but not much for hiking.

yea i was thinking about letchworth - it's pretty nice there. i've been there several times but haven't camped there since i was a boyscout.

are you talking about rock city in olean, ny? that's pretty much my hometown. i've been there MANY times. can you actually camp there? if so, i did not know that.

Evengola state park, i'm checking out now. thanks a lot man.
i've enjoyed camping in Allegany State Park a few times.

i may not even go (just) camping though. i'd rather go to a music festival.

i'm checking out Weekend Off in warsaw, ny aug 6-8
scottypaluza in prattsburgh, ny aug 13-15
overgrown in angelica, ny aug 27-29
or slyfest in warsaw the same weekend

If you ever go to Evengola try to get site 75 its the nicest spot in the park, but difficult to get if not reserved pretty early in the season. The rock city I was talking about is just outside Ellicottville, its actually called Little Rock City, its just state land but they have picnic tables at the camping sites. Dont forget about Zoar Valley, that has swimming and hiking:)

"Camping, campfires and overnight stays are not allowed on the public land in Zoar Valley. Access is sunrise to sunset only, due to safety issues. There are several very nice places to stay/camp nearby, though"

we are gonna either go to letchworth - but apparently you have to rent a site for a minimum of 2 nights, and we can only camp saturday night.

or sonyea state forest - it looks like you can just hike in there, pitch a tent and build a fire..for free. that's about 6 miles east of letchworth, so we could drive there for the day.

Stonybrook in Dansville is nice, and anywhere around Ithaca is gorgeous- Taughannouck (sp) Falls...

In the Syracuse area, I'd go to Green Lakes state park.

If you want to camp for just one night, call ahead or just show up and see if they'll give you just one night- sometimes they let that slide. Or just pay the extra 20$ for the second night- shit, the state parks need the cash!

I'm thinking about getting away too- maybe to Herkimer diamond mines, bang on some rocks, explore some caves.

looks like we are going to sonyea state forest and finding our own spot to camp. i've never just walked into the woods and found a spot like that, so i'm pretty excited. after we set up camp we might drive over to letchworth for part of the day, and come back early evening to our camp.
