*drools* Today I went and tried a cannonball alto sax - Raven model, big bell series. I also died, right there in the store. Anyone out there who plays sax, and even if you dont, find a dealer and try one, and if you're looking for a sax, I'd strongly suggest these guys, esepically if you're like me and can't afford a selmer. They're great models, and they're incredibly beauitful instruments... Here's a picture of the one I tried today: www.cannonballmusic.com/raven.php Just *try* to look at that sax and tell me it's not beauitful and orgamsic and yummy. I DARE YOU!
My fiance played Alto in high school, I always wanted to learn it.. She tried to teach me, but I could'nt make any sense of it.. I'll be a knuckledragging drummer / guitar player for good I guess... I love listening to it though...
Haha told ya Jon And Mike, I never really understood how people could not make sense of a wind instrument. Yeah everyone always says "My god look at all those buttons!" But once you place your hands on the sax or clarinet or flute or whathaveyou correctly it all kinda falls into place... But hey, to each his own.. We still need drummers and guitar players in this world I wish I could make sense of guitar really...
mannnnnnnn cannonballs are the shitttt i demo'd one about 2 yrs ago and fell in love! im a bari player and it was a pretty damn warm, clean sound but nothin beats a vintage conn 12m
Aw man... In all honesty I HATE Conn instruments... But I'm just real stubburn I guess and maybe I havne't played a decent one... But I've never even SEEN a Cannonball barri... I've only tried a alto and a couple tenors... Do you remmeber how much they were asking? I heard they're made by only one dude and his son so they're like... super expensive! But one day when I m ake enough money going around playing tenor...
it was like a good 4 grand for the bari yes, some of the newer conns may suck but the vintage horns are superb, mine is from like 50's-60's ish and is intense but he conn 12m's are def. on par with say a Mark VIII? i cant remember that number
Man, I've played a Selmer Mark VIII and I nearly died then... THose horns are from late 60's I think... But I've always been told Conn horns suck... So one of these days I'll have to try and find a good one out there and give it a whirl... Thanks for hte info man
And damn you must have had a good Cannonball dealer... The tenor saxes for Cannonball were going for almost 5 grand...
idk rele remember was a little while ago but i just got home from jazz band, we had a jazz trio come in (drums, bass, alto) that played mingus tunes they were amazing, we got our whole band in on "mysterious blues" and it was intense. im now listening to Nick Brignola(Rip) great bari player
The picture you showed me looked like a toy instead of a bone, show me a REAL picture than I"ll be convinced And does your bone have a name like my sax does?:O
aw come on, thats not fair! the picture wasn't of mine, anyway. (it's just called Trombone, btw - original i know) yours only looks good cos it has loads of buttons my bones just a length of pipe with a trigger! it's very, very beautiful in real life.
Nuh-uh! Mine looks pretty because it's all silver And becuase it has purdy flower engravings! I bet it is purdy, someone in our jazz band has one very simliar but kinda different, I just want to see what your'e talking about, I'll have to see it when I'm in England
With two acoutsic guitars and various other percussion instruments... But I'd love to learn low brass...
Amazing how that happens sometimes, huh? That happened to me when I coudlnt' play my sax for about a month... I picked it up again all the sudden and I could play great! Weird... It must be a strange wind player syndrome...
Yeah there's that too, that happens a lot with marching band since it requires so much more energy to play and march at the same time... When you sit down in play in concert/jazz band for hte first few weeks you're always playing about twice as loud as you should becuase you're used to having to put that much more air through the horn...
