I'm going to be polite and respectful, and try not to get kicked out of here. Furthermore, would the original poster and/or moderators consider moving this out of the Sanctuary now? It's been nine pages, and Christians aren't the only ones that read the books of Moses.

But back to the topic....There are a few scientists suggesting that the Nephilim might have been the last of the Neanderthals on Earth. It at least makes an interesting idea. Just how would have early "modern" humans have reacted to them? Imagine if YOU ran into someone who looked "human," but not quite the same as you. The Neanderthal weren't taller than humans, but they were stronger and stockier. Perhaps that's why they were considered to be giants. As for the translation, "fallen ones," they would have been the last of their once-common species. It's hard to fall much further than extinction.

As for being called "Sons of God," well, I've met modern Homo sapiens who looked different than me, acted differently than me, walked different than me, and talked different than me, yet I knew that they were definitely a Child of God. Maybe that name didn't mean "angel," as much as it was just a way to refer to someone who definitely wasn't just an animal, but wasn't quite human either.

Possible, I guess. But it seems more likely simply a relic from a pagan tradition which somehow escaped later editing.
