Hi my name is David. i have done meditating and other trance type endevours off and on throughout my life. About 2 years ago i was diagnosed with pundental nueralgia, a condition that consists off a damaged nerve the is loctaed basically in the buttocjk and runs exactly where all the pressure is when u sit down. so i have been unable to sit for almost 2 years now, donut pads help only for minimal amounts of time.

My question is what are my options for meditaing if i am unable to sit? i know that u arent supposed to lay down and medtate cuz u do not want to fall asleep, but i am unable to sit, esp in crossleg on hard ground. Do i have any alternatives or sol?

    Thanks

You could try meditating whilst you have enough energy to ensure you won't fall asleep whilst lying down or you could stack a few pillows and see how comfortable that is. Another option I've read about is walking meditation, where I think you try to focus on every step.

I'm sure you will find a way to meditate if you look hard enough, I'm kind of a beginner myself so I'm sorry I could be of more assistance but I'm sure some of the more experienced HipForum'ers will have some ideas. :) Good luck.

You could try a device that suspends you in the air or try acupuncture to fix the ass problem. I will pray for you to find a solution.

ANY position is good to meditate. It is not true that lying down prevents the meditative state of occuring. It's all a matter of how you accept your reality.

Also, is it false that you have to avoid sleep during meditation. If you fall asleep, don't fight it. Meditation = learning how not to fight = learning how to accept reality

thanks for the replies so far, actually after almost 2 years of misdiagnosing and injections they finally did surgery, which was monday this week. so any type of sitting is 100% out of the question. thought maybe there was special kindso fmedidtaing maybe that u are supposed to lay, or ways to stay awake. i have done it a few times, and have some iIsochronic Tones to try out and will. i would def like to hear from some very expirience meditators (if its a word) what they think about it.

again thanks for replys so far

    Peace

You could also try Dynamic meditations (from Osho), they range from very gentle to quite rigorous, the thing about them is you let the energy flow that runs in the body move freely and so allow your body and mind to let go.

    Look up "dynamic meditation".

Good luck and all the best,
    C.

There's loads of way to meditate without sitting, I know some people say you shouldn't lie down because you'll fall asleep, but it doesn't matter, like Any Color You Like said, just don't fight it, as long as it feels comfortable to you.

    hi,
Doing meditation doesn't have to be sitting down. what? You saw an Indian Yoga Guru doing meditation by sitting on a cushion and in cross-leg? Its a nice poss for photo shooting but... give me a break! The real meditation practitioner can do meditation at any circumstance. A real meditation practitioner don't even try to do meditation, for he is the meditation! He and his meditation are one! Even when he is watching a porno. learn some Prajna would help with that.

My advice, slow down your breath, focus on your underbelly. thats where the chi can be sotred up in your body. Practice it everyday. When you have gathered enough Chi, lead it through certain channels, your pain will be over! Its not easy, but its a cure.

    Sorry for my poor English.

    agree agree agree

Meditation isn't just for sitting, it's for living. There's no wrong time, place, or position for meditating. I have lower back issues and lately have grown quite fond of meditating flat on my back with an aligned spine and my palms facing up as I was taught in yoga. Speaking of which some kind of moving meditation like tai chi, qi gong, or yoga might provide you with another option for meditation as well as help provide relief for your physical ailments.

Oh and if you fall asleep while deep in meditation, from my experience you wake up feeling AMAZING

The Buddha taught sitting meditation but also walking meditation and lying meditation.
