Just a little tale that happened to me yesterday that I thought I would share cause it really made my day.

I decided to go for a hike to a lake that is hidden in the woods near my home and got about half way there, then the rain came. It was really coming down so I decided.... if im going to get wet, im going to get wet. I turned around and exited the woods, from here, I made my way to the beach. The beach is called Conrads Beach and is a little known beach around my town on the Atlantic Ocean (Nova Scotia). When I got there, there was not a soul in sight. Most days there are a few locals that walk the shore, but today, it was just me and the ocean. I made my way up the beach stopping here and there to dunk in the water and taste the salt water. By the time I had reached the end of the beach I had nearly a full backpack of garbage (mostly beer bottles/cans and the bags they got carried in.....one thing I will never understand, how people can carry in full cans of beer but somehow can't muster the strength to carry out the empties). Anyways, I had to turn around and head back as I had reached the end of my hike. I walked about 10 minutes back the direction I came and saw a huge (in respect to things you find on the beach) purple/grey blob down the shore, it almost looked like a docking buoy for a boat. As I got closer I could see that it was a pup seal!! He wasn't there when I walked up the beach but he was on shore on my way back.... He was staring at me and flopping around playfully, I put my bag down and walked up to him while singing him a tune.... I'm used to seeing seals in our harbour or at "specific" places where they get food from tourist, will approach and retreat quick and whatnot....but never on a beach!! He let me get real close to him and he maintained a calm misdemeanor about him the whole time while watching me, even adjusting his posture to get comfortable. It was only when I grabbed my bag and slowly moved on did he turn around and slowly dragged himself back to the ocean.

I just wanted to share this cause it really felt special.... I've been around wild animals my whole life and never had an encounter like this.... Deer and pheasant are quick to run, bears elude even the best trackers and birds ever evade humans.....but this guy, it seemed, was thanking me for cleaning up his beach/water.... Made me feel good and am finding it hard to shake the feeling. Maybe this can inspire people a little to respect our planet..... but if your on this forum, then I'm sure you already do.

    Cheers,
