If any of you have never heard of or listened to any of this comedian/philosophers material, please do yourself a favor and enjoy. In my opinion he is the greatest comedian ever period.... its not just comedy, he conveys messages in his material to try to progress the evolution of conciousness and great social commentary that is very relevant today even though he has been dead for about 15 years..... has great material on the subject of psychedelics. Anybody else a fan?
This guy IS a genius, when I found out about him a few months ago and watched some youtube vids I was literally in awe, definitely one of my favourites.
A true comedian. Funny, but also social commentary. On the same level as the Marx Brothers or Lenny Bruce or something. Not just making you laugh, but making you think. It's so sad that there's so many bad comedians out there that almost seem like they are trying to make people stupider, close minded, and prejudice with their jokes. And people love watching them at comedy clubs and stuff....sad that they don't know the difference. Too bad he had to die young. I just love the one of him killing his old buddy Leno for selling out. That's about the funniest hard hitting insulting thing I've ever heard..... ...and he's not afraid to tell the truth about drugs. Brilliant.
surprised that more people havnt posted about him..... atleast some of you know who he is..... love this guy, gives me goosebumps sometimes when he gets in the zone
Just noticed this thread, yeh, i realy think a lot of the guy aswell, he is in a league of his own imo .. I first heard about him when i was around 15- 16 yrs old, by accident through a film ( Human traffic ) Didnt think much of that film, but it showed a couple of minutes of Bill on stage. I went on to buy a dvd of him on stage ( ive forgotten what its called as ive lent it to my dad ) anyway he's on stage in london, and the whole thing is brilliant. And yes he's totally open and truthfull about his drug use, and has some very comical stories to back up what is possable with psychadelics .. " Good clean fun " I also love how descriptive he is when telling a story .. He was a very talented man . R.I.P Bill .. " Absolute legend "
Certainly is spiral, just got it back from my dad's house, and been given " Sane man " to borrow from my best mate .. both exellant ..
yeah this guy's hilarious, i like comedians that can actually have some substance and make a legit point but still be funny. too bad about his calling for a mass genocide though, it sucks when good comedians just lose it on a bad ngiht and say some shit that turns a lot of people off or against them. even though he was soooorta right lol i like how he talks about cigarettes, too, being a smoker myself. fucking non smokers really do suck sometimes.
His movies are funny too. - Bill Hicks in "Ninja Bachelor Party" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcHvHtSoPFQ
Maynard James Keenan from TOOL fuckin loves Bill Hicks, he's in a couple different albums with some standup clips. "Go home, take all those records and burn em, cuz the musicians who you've grown up with that you know and love, reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaallllllll fuckin high on drugs." paraphrased a tad bit, but still one of my all time favorite lines of his.
deranger 'human traffic' is a funny ass movie. My current quote is from it. Bill hicks was awesome. "The beatles were so high they let ringo sing a couple of songs. Tell me they weren't partying. We all live in a yellow submarine? Do you know how high they were when they wrote that? They had to pry ringo off the ceiling with a rake."
I heard of him years ago through Tool. He is a great comedian, and political speaker. He predicted the turn of the world. He ranted about the government and weapons of mass destruction, and now we find ourselves in dire straits as he had imagined. However I think he came at the right time, the late 80's and early 90's. Had he been doing comedy today, he would not have been as big by half, as everybody wants to have a crack at politics whether they can pull it off or not. *coughs* Green Day
What's weird is I don't think he was ever that big in the U.S. Certainly not as popular as people like George carlin, robin Williams, or sinbad. He seemed to have an underground following and a couple flirtations with the mainstream on the David letterman show but not really a mainstream comic here.
He was on a list of the UK's 100 favourite comedians only last week here, and the public placed him 4th. They went on to say on the TV program that he was celebrated in the UK, and not really very popular in the USA. On the one hand with what he was saying about America I can hardly blame them on the other, the UK loved him. What does that tell you?
Just the most massivest Hick's fan that EVER LIVED!!! I remeber how incredible it was, the very first time I ever heard him. I still remember that night like it was yesterday.
Wow that's cool he was # 4 on that list. I think if he would have came around 10 years later in the U.S. he would have been popular and certainly when the Bush Jr. Administration was in office. George Carlin has a lot of political period material too, I think some of Hicks material outside of his political stuff was really crude for 80's/ early 90's America. I forget where I saw it but I saw this list of like jokes he did about the Bush Sr. Administration and nearly all the material was relevant when Bush Jr. was in power, pretty amazing how little had changed, even the name was the same.
On the Letterman show when he points out that the Pope is gods representitive on Earth and that he drives around in a 'Popemobile' with 3/4 inch of bullet proof glass surrounding it. "yeah, THERE's faith in action for ya!" Brilliant (anyone know why the Pope needs protecting? Is he scared of death?? Surely not) The he comes out to the audience with "Sorry if anyone here is Catholic - i'm not going to make a joke about you... i'm just sorry that you are" Came 6th out of 100 best stand ups in the world on Channel 4 in the UK. Not bad for a guy not many people have heard of who has been dead for 16 years!
