I do not want Walmart to not have the greeters. The greeters they hire are often not employable in any other position within the company due to limitations. I actually think that this is one of the things that this company does that it right.

off the wall mart, has never been about anything else but cutting corners, and pretending to be religious in the process.
1. the greeters are typically people who cannot get jobs elsewhere (mentally or physically infirm people) the job means more to them than your shitty plastic basket means to you. 2. they decrease shoplifting by more than enough to justify their existence, otherwise they wouldn't exist. 3. The fucking hand baskets aren't that fucking important. Akshually, because (I don't know if you've ever worked retail) it fucking happens, often. it's not stupid employees, it's thieving customers, who, from the retail employees standpoint, are pretty much all retarded.
Wow. The Walmart executives have you well-conditioned. That's all we need. Mentally infirm people being the judge of who is allegedly shoplifting. .
They are successful enough to keep wal mart shoplifting levels below those of competing retailers. I'm presenting facts, and honestly shaggie, you've presented a fairly liberal bent, it seems pretty bullshit that you're against people who need jobs having jobs for your personal convenience. that seems selfish.
so far no one has given me any guff about bringing in a backpack..then again, I don't steal and people who work at the local stores know me well enough to know I wouldn't do such a thing., without bringing my own bags, my groceries would never make it home.
I've visited a number of Walmart stores. The ones in the more upscale neighborhoods are run in a more professional manner than the lower-end ones. They run things more efficiently, cleanly, and serve basics needs of the customers, such as having shopping baskets available. Most of the problems in Walmarts in the the lower-end areas appear to be the result of incompetence of the management and general sloppiness. They just aren't at the level of more experienced business people. Of course, one could always blame it on the customers and argue that shoplifting is more prevelant in Walmarts in the lower-end neighborhoods, and that there is therefore a need to do away with shopping baskets and hire mentally infirm people to try to spot the shoplifters. Wonder how long it will take Odon to come running into this thread to defend the corporate establishment. .
Walmart, in each store has loss prevention personnel. So it is not some greeter who is going to arrest you. Yes, in part you can blame the shop lifters for a lot of exactly what you are talking about. It also a factor in the price you pay for the good you purchase. Why there is such an issue over a company who does employ a person who needs a job but would not necessarily fit in the job of clerk, is beyond me. It stands to reason that they are deserving of a job. Anyone who gives an honest 7 hours labour for 7 hours pay deserves respect. If the issue is such a large one, there are food retailers that sell baskets with handles for use by customers as part of their green program. The real bonus is that walmart will deduct 3 cents off your bill if you bring your own bag or bin. Over time, 3 cents adds up. You then have it for usage of your bin all the time and it is solved. So you can save the environment, save 3 cents and someones job. All for the sake of a little basket that you purchase and reuse.
Question why would anyone steal from Walmart The prices are so low on most products it’s a steal :cheers2: Hotwater
Why do people do it in general, especially those who have no need to. I have no clue. I do not understand the mentality of theft at all. A true story. When we had that heat wave here start in April, I decided to buy new fans for the kids rooms. I went in and got them and placed them on the back rack (lower) of the cart. I picked up some other items when I was in there and went through the self check out. Paid for it and went to my car, opened my trunk and put in the bags.......saw the boxes on the back and I had not paid for them. I cashed out standing in front of my basket....I usually do not put items on the bottom at the back. I went back in and paid for them. I felt like a total idiot. Now if I had not of, they would of lost close to $100 and that cost is tacked on to customers. That was an honest mistake, stupid, but honest. I was treated respectfully when I went back in, I was thanked and they handled the situation. Guess who the person was that I spoke to when I rolled that damn cart in with the fans, the greeter.
I’m as honest a guy as you’ll ever find and I’d never consciously steal anything but with all due respect “you went back in and paid for the items” Hotwater
Yes, I use one of those things at other stores. However, as far as Walmart is concerned, that's something they believe you should use to carry your items out of the store after you paid for them. They don't like it when you use any type of bag for the purpose of shopping (at least the Walmart where I was scolded at for using a bag). I can't generalize that policy to all Walmarts, as each has its own brand of stupidity or intelligence. I do know a couple other Walmarts that have the plastic baskets for their customers. .
Check out some of the business practices Walmart has engaged in the past couple decades and you'll understand the meaning of 'selfish'. I shouldn't even be doing business with them. All I did was ask that a company be attentive to the needs of its customers and request a basket. What a selfish thing to do! For shame. .
Yes, I went back in and paid for the two fans. Even though it was by error that I did not cash them through.
You are probably very correct in that each walmart, although under the parent company is also run by a team of management. We do have those little baskets in the two that I use in Ottawa area. It is unfortunate that you had such a hassle about getting them in your store.
Cool, Heat, that you were honest and paid for the fans. BTW, those self-checkout scanners have cameras in them that take your pic, as you probably know. Heh heh. Also, I heard Walmart greeters have some sort of special superman x-ray vision and an implanted radio transmitter to alert security when theft is occurring. It's a failsafe system. .
If you have a problem with their business practices, you're right, you shouldn't be doing business with them but since you are, and are supporting those practices, you are as much a hypocrite as they AND your argument is still selfish bullshit. You dicked up shaggie. Deal with it.
No one ever suggested fail safe mister limbaugh, but it does decrease shoplifting by a large enough percentage to pay the greeters salaries. You used to pretend to be reasonable. the hippies have gotten to you.
The responses in this thread have gotten even more fierce than the ones where something critical is said about McDonald's. .
