    Hey, been a while.

Reached 3 years a month ago and been getting some unexpected problems. The roots of some dreads have gotten really alarmingly thin and im not sure what there even is to do about it...i have no idea why either.

First noticed it with the ones in the back i tie em up with...when it was too late...i actually pulled 2 smaller dreads off eventually from the back of my head...from the sides so it doesnt really show and they left little stumps. I figured it was cause they were quite thin and ive been using the dreads back there to tie the rest up for a while. It was quite a shock when the frist one came off one day when doing a knot and tightening it...

but now i noticed a random one on the side has gotten really thin from the roots too...like to an extent where its like 1/3 of the fatness of the dread and just hairs. wtf.

i dont root rub or basically do anything to them but wash and at these times, swim. and well play with them i suppose.

tried to think how would it be possible to fatten them up again...but got nothing. even if i can fatten the absolute root part up somehow by rubbing or whatever over time, the thin spot will still remain. ... So..any thoughts?

I also figured that perhaps its a natural part of my journey...that some might get weak and fall off..leave little stumps that grow into new dreads. Thats just to make myself feel better i suppose but has something to it, for me anyway, since they were originally backcombed but left em be and they just went wild and reformed again, but still essentially cant say theyre natural.

The past year has been pretty crazy and full of changes
my 2 year pics and shit should be up here somewhere and i was rather happy with them, and then shit got wild...my biggest congo is like 4-5 dreads and then theres quite a few 2-dread ones. Thats all cool in my book, except the big one is sucking stuff in it and basically left a bbit of an empty spot on my head..which isnt that great but doesnt bother me as fricken much as them falling off.

probly made this sound pretty bad..im actually not that bothered and am happy with them, but if they keep getting thinner from the roots, the future doesnt seem very happy.

not sure what i expect from here either, just some thoughts i guess.

    peace

well, here's a thought. as locks mature, they add more and more dead hair over the years. maybe it's that your locks are bigger, and your roots are staying the same size so they seem thinner. or maybe it's the weight of the locks. how big were your original sections?

oh nah its not the majority, there are plenty that have gotten fatter, but some seem to be like..dieing..just refusing to dread much and roots starting to feel like i could just pull them off with some force...as 2 already have. one of my early favourite ones is starting to look like its going to be the 3rd one and that made me panic sort of. well not panic, but i came here and made a wall of text about it so..yeah. just dont understadn why's this happening.

as far as pictures go..i think this is one of the best ones..from around 1year8months...damn, been a while. weird that they seem to be gettin more messy these days yet again. what a fricken funnyass rollercoaster.

sometimes i get little thoughtlings of cutting and goin allnatural...but neah ima ride this out and see what happens.

they seriously are the best locks so this post made me a little sad, that sucks man but I'm sure there's something you can do...some of mine have got so weak the past month. and one of them the end tore off when I was twiddling it. It's scary! I try to leave mine down now as much as possible and massage my head if I feel any pressure of one point of my head. I'd say it's a mix of the weight and the congos. Is there anyway you could break up the congos a little or on the weaker ones wrap some thread around two in the hope that they form together and get stronger? hope it works out!

that's actually a rather good idea...congoing would likely save them from dieing. its kinda funny though cause a year ago i had no congos and iirc no signs of them wanting to congo either. now i have like 6 different ones ranging from 2 dreads to 4 dreads (5 if to count a small dreadling)..and theres more on the way..i rip every now and then cause some things that are trying to form are redicolous. the congos i have are beyond separating imo..literally like one dread from the bottom part.

its the lonely ones that are getting weak though...maybe cause the congos are eating up all the hair or something. even though sometimes it seems stuff has just stopped dreading and im just getting more loose hairs now and that all the strengthening new growth is just growin loose lol. im suspecting that trying to rip them apart hasnt done them well either...everything on my head is trying to have sex with eachother these days, im totally going to end up like that one-big-congo guy

i think im gonna try to congo the ones that seem very weak from the roots...i just gotta figure out how and with what aha

I'd just get someone to make a wrap around a couple and gather up some of the loose hairs aswell :)
