trey didn't need someone introducing him to powders. I saw them around him in 95- beginning of the end for a lot of reasons. BUT trey's highest vice is ego at the expense of others. In 96, i was telling folks there is life after Dead, for some young 'uns that was Phish. Some had already gone out before we lost jerry and found phish, panic or the hot midsize local sensation. By 98, I really thought it would be SCI taking the Dead's place. Maybe, just maybe we can grow a crop of bands to enjoy. Homegrown Network is a good clearing house for that, so are the festivals, esp smaller ones like Wakarusa and High Sierra. I haven't spun a clever line, but there is life and lots, beyond phish. And leftover salmon.
No, not yet, but maybe when I think about it. Like crummyrummy said, its only been 3 months. And the way the whole breakup and the grand fiasco at Coventry went down, I was left with a bad taste. Since coventry I've been listening to much more non-Phish music. I've been pulling out some of my dusty meat puppets and butthole surfer cds and liking them lots. But I do sometimes think about not being able to experience that rush that is live phish again and it makes me sad.
People talk a lot of crap about phish, but one thing that's unfortunately true is that they never excelled in the studio. They have to be appreciated as a live band. Recordings of their live performances are widely available, including official releases both on CD and from the internet. The music is somewhat improvisational, so the performances vary. There are many great shows to pick from, e.g. 2003.7.22. Also, they have a live CD called A Live One that's good as a starter disc.
it is hard to imagine Phish without the community they created because of they're excellence in live preformances...
True that. Everything I saw about Trey made me think "what and egocentric ass he was... too bad his music is good =P" I still listen to their studio CDs and enjoy live phish recordings just like before they broke up. I'm a bit sad because they really were amazing live and I'm so glad I got to follow them for their last week (minus Camden... just wasn't happening). So I miss being able to see them, but otherwise everything is the same, life goes on.
I miss Phish totally, I got to see them in concert at Coventry though, what a trip it was! We had to walk 17 miles because they weren't letting cars in so we left ours on the interstate a few miles back from the exit and walked all the way... If you're willing to spend 9 bucks, download the Nassau show, Uniondale, NY, from 2-28-2003, from Livephish.com. Many people, myself included, regard it as the best show post-hiatus, and it's up there in my top 5 shows... along wtih Big Cypress (The Show...), 12-31-95, and I'm a big tweezer fan so "Tweezerfest" on 5-7-94 in Dallas, TX, is on of my favs. check any of those out, if you don't want to get into CD trading or mess with sending people self addy'd envelops and stuf... download a program called BitTorrent and download whole shows from bt.etree.org, a great resource in your quest for live phish! -Alan
