I've got two computers at home. I'm hooked up to the internet on my pc, while the other one(my father's pc) stays disconnected. If he wants to use the net, I unplugged my modem, walked it over to his pc, plugged it in, and he was off. This worked fine, because he only went online about twice a month, but due to some certain circumstances, he has to use it a bit more often.

So here's my question: Can I just buy a seperate modem for his pc, or do I have to share the connection through a router? I figured I could have my modem and his going strait to the net, and turn off whichever modem no one is on. That's essentially what I'm doing now anyways, except I won't have to move my modem back and forth.

Are you talking about dial-up or what?
Almost ALL pc's from stores have a modem built in. It sounds like you want the two machines networked. Do you plan to be able to share files also, or just the Internet connection?
