And the answer is, "Why don't I have dreads?"

fleas don't like hair, they won't lay eggs in it and even if they did, the baby fleas would jump off and make a new home immediately.
Fleas do however love sweet blood and will chew up your feets, arms, legs and other body parts.
    But they hate human hair.

don't worry. they like your dog way more than they like you.

do your dog a favor and get it a monthly flea prevention treatment (Frontline, k9 Advantix etc.)

You sure it's not because you're so old that you jump to stupid conclusions about things? :biggrinjester:

It is impossible for them to lay eggs in human hair.

They'll probably make a home in your bed, though!

Your head is safe but your dog needs treatment right away as well as your house. Make sure to do something to treat the fleas that are laying in your creaks and carpets.

eeeek. Okay not to sound like a disgusting slob....but all 3 of my fur rearing animals...2 dogs and 1 cat have fleas currently. I give them flea baths everyday and the house is clean and stuff but it's just this seemingly neverending drama around here. I currently cant afford the flea treatments for all 3. =[ So...anyways....my cat sleeps with me and I dont really give a flying "squirrel". I do not have fleas in my dreads nor have I ever. So I believe the above statements are accurate and you really have nothing to worry about.

yeah, well, i highly suggest you use your next $15 to buy your poor dog some flea prevention (not a flea collar, shampoo, powder).

Frontline is incredibly cheap. I found you some very cheap treatments 3 month treatments at $0.99 incl $5 p&p on eBay
Don't know what dog you have so I'll list as many weights as I can

Alternatively, there are many sites out there that sell frontline at similar prices, you can find. I just can't get hold of any US sites.

Removing them manually (off dog) with a flea comb is good to do in addition to whatever you end up doing. A few hours of that a day is all it should take.

Shampoos or powders can run under 10 dollars. I had to shampoo my cat every other day and eventually gave in to the nasty chemical powder for my carpets and the fleas disappeared. Both cost me under 10 dollars.

Fleas are hardcore. Ever grabbed one and tried to crush it? It's very very hard, when my cats had them I always had to use the sharp edge of my fingernail and 'crunch' them. Ridiculously strong for their small size.
