I am a 35 year old teacher at a private boys boarding school. I am gay but I am not out to anyone in the town where I work. I think I am very straight looking and acting and have taught at various schools like this without any problems. Recently several of the senior boys have asked me if I was gay. I pretended to be extremely insulted and asked why they thought so. They said it was because of the way I dressed. It was gay. I have always dressed in a similar manner and never been told this before. check out the three pictures in my profile. These are an example of how I usually dress. What do you think? If you say gay please elaborate. Thanks
ok.. you should say, "no im not gay, I make a shitty salary and shop at the thrift store, I cant get paid cause you cant learn".. have a nice day..
I wouldn't say that you 'look gay' if that is usually the way you dress. Why is this a problem anyways?
Private boarding school=contract with clauses about behaviours, correct? I do not think so, you look like everyone else. If you want to keep that job you will need to remain discreet.
OK, the kids are smart, aren't they? They are poking around and hoping that something to their advantage may come up. Keep your cool. You have got your job at stake. If they approach you again, tell them, "Guys, nothing but wishful thinking on your side!" Gay or not, this is really none of their business. KD
i don't think your clothes are gay. just ignore the kids on this subject. don't answer them anything -- 'cause it's none of their business. don't start acting different and don't try to pretend to be insulted either, unless you're really good at bullshitting people they will pick it up that you are lying. they might just be doing this to throw you off balance, to annoy you, whatever. ignore them and they will go away.
probably just ones with better than normal gaydar, it's not the way you dress, no matter how straight acting you are, there's other things that can give it off like mannerisms etc shrug
I agree with 87s here. None of my str8 friends ever thought I was gay. When I mentioned this to some of them at different times and places, a few of them went into total disbelief. (The expressions on their faces were priceless!) But a gay dude with a standard gaydar will get the vibe within minutes. To quite some extent, "it takes one to know one." Having said all of that, I would still stick with "my own business attitude". The kids have no right to share into your private life, and that's that. KD
Nothing Gay About Those Four Pics, Just Set The Offending Kids Double The Normal Quota Of Homework, That Way They Will Be Far Too Busy To Think About You.. Problem Solved... Cheers Glen.
One thing that I am wondering, If you are a gay man, why would you work in an all boys highschool anyways? I dont work in jobs that drug test because... guess what? I smoke POT! Why should that be any different for sexuality? I mean if the clause in your contract says that you are not allowed to be gay, the only reason anyone will think of that you LIED ABOUT YOUR SEXUALITY TO GET A JOB WITH ALL DUDES, is to pursue them sexually. Whether its true or not, idk, but thats how people are gonna see it anyways.
your clothes are not gay looking, stuffy yes, gay no. I like orison's comment "I make a shitty salary and shop at the thrift store" or something to that effect.
It's because you tuck yourself in, with a belt. I know it's stupid, but the cliche is gay people tuck themselves in and all that crap it mostly applies to people wearing t-shirts and the likes, but these kids may not realize this. I think it's stupid that you can't look smart without getting called gay, but that's just my ten cents for you. You dress well, I think.
I think you look very smart, nothing screams "I'm a gay man". And, if it did - so what! Kids can be twats at times. Some girls at my school used to mess around and ask teachers stupid questions, or say stupid things, but it was all just to get a reaction and to look 'big'.
Thanks for all of your comments on this subject. The more I think about this the more I suspect that the adage "it takes one to know one" is coming in to play here. My best friend, who is a teacher in LA agrees with this and also points out that it was only four seniors involved here who obviously haven't divulged their suspicions to anyone else and who have subsequently graduated. As for the question of my clothes my friend was very alert in pointing out something in the pictures that I posted that I and, I guess others, failed to notice. If you enlarge the pics you will see that my underpants are visible above the top of my pants. He claimed that if they were showing during classes that this could also have prompted the comments. Apparently only gay guys tuck their shirts in their underpants. Anyway I have decided not to let this bother me and I have already signed for one more year at the school .
No, retarded men do that quite a bit. Srsly, I have worked with developmentally disabled adults for years and that is one of their signature clothing problems, tucking their shirts inside their underwear (then not having belts on their pants which hang a couple inches lower than their tighty whities.) We are constantly pulling the shirts out so they cover the undies.
Yeah, i've heard all sorts about stuff like that too. Kids and their stupid stereotypes, got to love them
Lol tucking your shirt into your underwear? That's dumb. It's called UNDERwear for a reason. you're lucky I wasn't in your class and saw that. I wouldn't have called you gay, but QUAILMAN!!!
These kids probably all wear trendy and messy clothing at home , (whatever's the fashion) so when they see someone neatly dressed they want to boost their rapport with their friends and call you out. I doubt they're genuinely interested if you're gay or not, it's just a teenage thing. I probably would have done the same thing at their age, we always talked about our teachers' personalities and clothes.
Well, this is a stupid thread, with the pics in your profile I cant see your head for starters. In 5th and 6th grade I had the hugest fucking crush on one of my teachers, who was also the football coach He had a very square head so everyone used to call him Boxhead or Boxy, shoulders you could drive a semi trailer across. At the time it was just my little world of school, friends, parents and annoying relos, didnt really know what gay was, just knew I wanted to be around him, in fact only really started to play footy for the school because of him. I wasnt his favourite, in fact used to irritate him. Later on I realised thats becuase I was most likely creeping him out / staring him down. By senior level, most of your little dude students are going to ask you if your gay to try piss you off, but a small minority are going to ask you so they can measure how fake the denial is. Now, here's the trippy part, notice how 87s response is along the lines of, doesnt matter how you dress, its your mannerisms (body language) thats going to give you away. He's a guy 12 years younger than you, yet more clued in, and probably had worked out all this shit as I did back way before high school. If another guy is eye fucking you, doesnt matter what he's wearing, or even if he ever says the G word out loud, what the fuck is there to work out? So when we hear about you at 35, asking "do you think I'm gay by the way I dress?" - Three guesses what that tells us
