a friend of my parents found out i was really into buddhism and suggested siddhartha to me...it was one of those books that i understood on a really fundemental level...not something i would be able to communicate to anyone else tho...i loved it and am planning on reading it again
people keep telling me i should read Hesse... that i could so relate to him/his writings... you have all just reminded me and i 've just ordered three of them... Steppenwolf, Demian and Siddharta... :cheers2:
Man, forgot all about Herman Hesse-I usually picked those up coming down from acid and would read till the sun came up-seemed deep at the time-can;t remember a word , verse, or thought, gotta try again now that the mind is a little clearer
Back in the 70's I read everything of his I could lay my hands on. I loved the soulfulness of his writing. I wonder sometimes if the stories would have the same effect today as they did back then. Same with Kerouac?
I plan on reading the Siddhartha over the summer for my Senior English Class. Reading all this makes me really excited for it.
I read Siddhartha for a summer reading project my senior year of high school (summer 2007). Totally waited until the last minute to read it and write my paper, but that was fine because I could NOT put the book down! I'd like to revisit it.
It was so inspiring, the Buddha made real, sex elevated to spiritual levels. It was a guide to awareness, very handy for the psychedelic seekers.
