I'm new to this site. It's been kind of hard for me. I go to roughly 5 music festivals every year. Somewhere between 25-50 shows every year other than festivals.

I love music. I love the people, I love the scene. I've met cool people all over the country touring with different bands or going to festivals. I've been to festivals like bonnaroo, nateva, moe.down, and many others. I've toured with phish for small sections and other bands.

Here's the problem. It seems like a lot of gay people are more stereotypical gays. they listen to lady gaga and are interested in fashion. I sport my old beat up tshirts, duct taped together sandals and some random shorts. It just seems like there really isn't anybody I can relate too. I've had some really good looking girls come after me, some who I still go to shows with even though they now know I'm gay. I'm not a bad looking dude, It's just there isn't a huge crop if any of gay people in the music scene. at least as far as I can find.

I like bands like the dead, and floyd, sting cheese, moe., phish. I don't want to listen to lady gaga and the jonas brothers. For the record I'm not trying to knock the stereotypical gay. I just feel like a decent amount of people don't stay true to who they are. My biggest thing was being myself regardless if I ended up being straight or gay. I'm def gay but I'm still the same person. It makes it hard because people are like "well you don't look gay" or "you don't act gay" How does somebody look or act gay? Sexual preference doesn't define what kind of person you are. It's just feels really difficult. I feel like if I was the stereotypical gay I'd be in better shape, but that's not who I am.

Is anyone out there in the same boat as me? Any thought or advice would be appreciated.

    Peace and good vibes

    -Rusty

Yeah, idk. I was just generalizing I guess. It just seems like most people like certain sects of mainstream music, I'm just not a fan.

You going to bear creek this year?

i was thinkin the same thing. jonas brothers are not in the stereotype. at least they shouldnt be at all cuz i haven't met anyone that likes them. its like almost kinda insulting lol :p

i dont go to music festivals like that but i go to raves here and there. and i only have like two shirts that are kinda gay haha.
why do you think you'd be "in better shape" if you were more of a stereotypical gay? sounds like you're in a great shape as is.

I'd say house and even electro somewhat is stereotypical gay music.

I don't go girl hunting at the concerts I attend. I'm too busy smacking everyone with my awesome haircopter moves.

I've been to some raves but I'm more into the jam scene. As far as being in great shape as is, idk. It kind of sucks not to be able to find people with similar interests or some who are also gay.

Last time I went to see Slayer in concert I picked up

I'll do the translating for every one elses benefit:

Here he's just got the blinkers on, "stereotypical gays", so bears with well groomed moustaches on harleys only listen to Lady Gaga? Gym junkies that go waterskiing while popping pills on the weekend only listen to Lady Gaga? He's only talking about the gays guys he's focused on, the girly end of town

Now this one is a big red flag, best way to boost ones gaydar is to have a couple hot girls by your side, then if a guy you meet pays more attention to you and your biceps rather than their chests, then 2+2=4. From the gals perspective they are doing the same thing, using you to sort out which straight guys arent little boys in wolfs clothing

Well, I dont even need to translate this one do I

I would assume Phish dont have many gay followers, but I would also Phish dont have many non-boring followers

I cant translate this, this is just PC gobilldygook, cant stay true to who you are if you dont know who you are, and that applies to everyone

    Still the same as what?

To translate this one, substitute the word 'hot' for 'gay' then see how it sounds

Everyone says stuff like that but no one believes it

Yes, cos having the six pack, that can only be about sex, I'm sure it has nothing to do with wanting to run around keeping active, being able to shake it till 4 in the morning at a club, spend all weekend rockclimbing or skiing, or liking the feeling of waking up in the morning and not feeling like shit.

Mellowhippie, does that reply get you angry? Angry enough to press me up against the couch and pull on my hair, if so, dont forget the reach around at the same time, thats my favourite part. Or maybe you'd prefer to be the woman so you can get in their heads better, cos by the sound of it you pretty much suck at reading them

1,For the first, A dude riding a harley isn't a stereo typical gay. And believe me I hate stereo types, but I'm just saying. As for other peoples deal with the jonas brothers, I don't know any of their stuff I thought it was similar to lady gaga kind of stuff, what do I know. And I'm def not focused on gays towards"the girly end of town" that's my biggest turn off. I like real people. I feel like a lot of really girly gays changed as they became gays, not all but enough, and regardless still not into any of that.

    2. Don't know if it will work, because there really aren't that many gay people at festivals as far as I can tell, but It can't hurt.

    4. "
I would assume Phish dont have many gay followers, but I would also Phish dont have many non-boring followers" Lol you've never been to a phish show quite obviously. Not even by the way you typed that but seriously, if you catch one show, you'll be impressed.

    5. I don't really believe in finding yourself for most people as much as I do excepting yourself. I feel like most people that go to " find themselves" already no who they are inside. But I guess there is a need for random experimentation for many. I feel like a decent amount of people that realize they are gay, try to turn into the different gay stereotypes.

    6. "still the same as what" Still the same person. Regardless of sexual orientation. I didn't change at all. Yeah I like guys but I'm still the same person regardless. I feel like so many people change into some sort of gay stereotype. I'm not straight acting, I'm just who I am. I don't need to be something particular to be gay. I like guys, that's why I'm gay.

    7. "It makes it hard because people are like "well you don't look gay" or "you don't act gay" How does somebody look or act gay? "

I was just saying that If I were presumed as gay, it would make it far more likely for guys to approach me and feel safe.

your response was "To translate this one, substitute the word 'hot' for 'gay' then see how it sounds" So you're saying if I were hot, or I looked or acted hot? Not to be pretentious but I find your post there a little bit offensive. Believe me I'm hot as most people would consider. If I was straight I'd be set for life. I just don't really know how to find guys with any similar interests.

    8. "Sexual preference doesn't define what kind of person you are "
You said "Everyone says stuff like that but no one believes it"

Really??? Like I said before and you didn't seem to understand, I'm myself regardless of sexual orientation. I'm the same person I just like guys. The people I've come out to were completely fully genuinely surprised. They assumed I was 100% straight. Not because I talk about girls all the time(because I don't) But because of my general mannerisms and interests. They've seen girls hitting on me and just assumed I was getting with all of them. That point comes back to stereotypes and why I felt they were important to mention. And again, I'm not straight acting, but I haven't changed my personality because I'm gay. Other than attraction and pursuit of guys I'm the same person.

    9. "I feel like if I was the stereotypical gay I'd be in better shape, but that's not who I am. "

"Yes, cos having the six pack, that can only be about sex, I'm sure it has nothing to do with wanting to run around keeping active, being able to shake it till 4 in the morning at a club, spend all weekend rockclimbing or skiing, or liking the feeling of waking up in the morning and not feeling like shit.

Or maybe you'd prefer to be the woman so you can get in their heads better, cos by the sound of it you pretty much suck at reading them "

Having a 6 pack has nothing to do with that point. If I were a person people would see as gay, I would be more likely assumed as gay, and would have less trouble finding people that were gay.

As for you I wouldn't touch you. I like people on the same level as me, which you obviously or not. You have some strange emotional problems that I don't understand and at this point really care nothing about. That said I wish nothing bad upon you.

I hope I don't meet a lot of people like you in my life. that's why I love festivals so much. People are real. By that I mean no fronts, they show themselves as they are. People are legit and caring, extremely neighborly. If all the people in the gay community were like you ( and I know for a fact at least some are not) I would just go on as I am and see what opportunities come.

Even through the internet I can sense some strange vibes coming off of you. believe me it's nothing good. I like positive vibes and cool people. You really don't fit into either of those categories. Best of luck to you regardless and I hope you learn some stuff about the world in the end.

Sweet. So that's how it is. The majority of people are fairly lame, with shitty energy and bad vibes. That's awesome.

    :banghead:

In there somewhere lies the answer you seek, as to why you cant spot gay guys at festivals.

Anyhoo, as for me, go to every 'Big Day Out' and 'Soundwave' here in Sydney and a few lesser ones during the year. Usually go with those with milk dispensers, cos I'm usually pinging off my head too much to worry about anything to do with grinding, and so I can put all my crap in their purses and not have to worry about it falling out of my pockets.

Of course I'm not talking about ones my age, having one mum is enough, so from the outside, from your perspective I'm going to look like a 38 year old with a very healthy bank account, hence your confusion

Like when you try take a tennis ball out of rovers mouth, but times two, and a similar kind of smell ;)

I listen to all types of music; from Metallica to Mozart, jazz, classical, some country, rock (all types) and not much on Gaga type music prolly cuz I'm 53. I go to festivals; music and renfest types. I don't see them being or not being a gay thing. I usually go barefoot (notice user name) which is not normal for gays.

I'm gay and gaydar doesn't pick me up. lotsa gay guys are shocked when I tell them
