Recently, I've settled in to this stage where I can't keep my mind off the huge topics. I can't stop thinking about death, I can't stop thinking about how meaningless almost everything is starting to seem, I can't stop thinking about how massive the whole universe is, and I can't stop thinking about religion.

So I was wondering if anybody had any suggested reading that would help me come to terms with some of this stuff, and help me relax and get some amount of comfort about the situation and maybe some more ideas to ponder.

I was thinking Sagan might have a couple books that might help? I don't really know. I'm open to anything.

    Alright, thanks much.

read The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life by Drunvalo Melchezidek, in it's first volume it relates to the various and most amazing things happening on the earth without us even knowing. Changes in consciousness, dimensions, evolution, natural phenomena, sacred geometry, etc.

This book has opened my heart and mind like no other book i've ever read. Right now i'm on the 2nd volume. It talks about a lot of things you wonder about everyday, and explains humanity. It has very raw material of very crazy things on the planet, that you might not believe; but I recommend you to read with both your heart and not just your human mind.

You can download the book in .pdf and read it on adobe acrobat
i promise you, that you haven't layed eyes on anything like it

The Universe in a Single Atom by HH Dalai Lama

When it comes to coming to terms with death, you already have all the answers inside of you. Just sit and listen. Whatever feels right and brings you comfort, go with that.

I'll look into that Ancient Secret series. Sounds interesting. I'll probably see if I can dig it up online and if I end up really liking it, I'll order both volumes.

Know anywhere that I can get the first book online? I found the second volume on Scribd, but it seems like I shouldn't read the second without knowledge of the first.

They seem very very interesting though. Thanks for the recommendation.

Two of the most amazing books on nothingness and finding peace with it.

Friedrich Nietzsche's 'Human, All Too Human'

    http://books.google.ca/books?id=Nl-...&resnum=6&ved=0CCgQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q&f=false

Jiddu Krishnamurti's ' The Revolution From Within'

    http://books.google.ca/books?id=FeB...ook_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA

I recommend reading the Nietzsche book before Krishnamurti's. Nietzsche can leave you feeling a little helpless or alone at times. Krisnamurti will really pick you up and motivate you towards accepting peace.

    soooooooooooo true.

though technically its impossible to ever know, the only form of afterlife that exists is your children... anyone who argues otherwise is just hiding from the bleak fact of life to make themselves feel better.

A good friend told me that if you read the works of the poet Rimbaud, you don't have to read much else.

I strongly recommend reading Nausea by Sartre. It's a great existential text that is pessimistic without appearing to be so for its own sake.

Daniel Dennett's Breaking the Spell is probably one of the best books about religion ever written.
