Hello, this is one outrageous story that happened to me Friday night around 11:30pm. Me and a friend of mine were having an iced cuppachino at Tim Hortons in Dundas Ontario. We saw two girls that we knew at the Tim Hortons also buying a drink, and we struck up a conversation about how they were doing and things like that. They then saw 3 guys they knew across the parking lot and in front of a variety store. We went over there and I met these 3 guys who were kinda drunk and a little too poser gangster for my tastes. Anyways, not 2 minutes after meeting these 3 guys, the cops pull in... There was a male cop and a female cop both in their own cars. The male cop arrived first and yelled: "Hey Fuckheads!". I didn't like this at all, so I decided to exercise my legal right to walk away and started making my way out of the parking lot towards the sidewalk. The cop then yelled "Hey Fuckhead, stop!" to me and started walking towards me. I turned around and said "This conversation is over if you're going to speak to me like that." and I continued walking away. I have a limp because I had a fractured spine last july from a car accident and I'm still not recovered yet. I was even wearing shorts and a leg brace. This didn't stop the cop, he just came up behind me, grabbed me arm, threw me down right on my back, leaving me there cringing and crying in pain. I yelled for help, but no one helped because it was the police. I told him that I had back surgery not a year ago, and he just said I was resisting, turned me over on my stomach, grabbed my arm and jabbed his knee right into the metal in my back. I was balling in pain on the ground, and he then said "GET THE FUCK UP!" and tried yanking me up but I couldn't stand I was having so much nerve pain in my injured leg and pretty sharp back pain. He also called this resisting, and he yanked me up and pushed me against a police car. Then, he walked far away and refused to come back over, and this lady cop talked to me. She wouldn't let me say anything without her saying "STOP YELLING" even when I wasn't yelling. I gave her my ID, then asked for the man cop's badge number, but she wouldn't give it to me, all she would say is "STOP YELLING" or "I CAN HEAR YOU KNOW" and "IM REPORTING THIS BAD BEHAVIOR". She also said it was my fault entirely for what happened and that I shouldn't speak to criminals. It turns out they were there because one of the kids I had met not a moment ago smashed a car window. I didn't even match the description of the kid, and the bastard got away while I was subjected to this police brutality! The lady and the man cop lingered around for about an hour questioning people and they said I did absolutely nothing. Then they tried to see if I had been drinking, and when that didn't work they tried to get me mad for a reason to arrest me. I was eventually let go in extreme pain, and I visited the hospital that night. Thankfully, none of the metal in my back is off, but now it's Sunday morning and I'm still in very bad pain and the percosets I got from emerge only do so much. I have already filed an official complaint, and I get to meet with a staff sergent on Monday. I just wanted people to hear about this bullshit first hand because these cops deserve to go down. I'm not too worried if they'll actually get in trouble or not though, many people witnessed this due to my cries for help, and even a seperate party of witnesses in a car that drove by called me up later and said they saw the whole thing, not to mention theres a security camera facing right where it happend from the variety store! Thanks for reading, Colin
Okay, so I got these complaint papers, told the guy what happened. I have to get all my witnesses to sign the back and hand it back in, then I'm all set. Thanks for the support guys, I'll keep you updated.
Ok good, I hope things work out for you. I just wanted to say that because I saw no mention of a lawyer in your post.
I submitted my complaint the other day, and a higher ranked officer wishes to speak with me today. I was also told I have a case when I went to a free sit-in with a lawyer. But, the best news of all is that the newspaper called me back and said they're following my story. He said it should be in the paper in a couple of weeks after I give him some updates on the situation. The newspaper dude said he's been hearing about this alot lately and it's the perfect story to expose it all! Thanks for all the support guys!
NWA said it best... fuck the police. Some aren't bad, some are. Sue the police. I would think that after you telling him of your situation, and he continued to assault you that that must be unlawful.
Dude, great job following up, just want to thank you from us other Canadians (I'm in Montreal). I'm glad you put in the work to get your story out there and get noticed by the police, because what those police (were they RCMP?) did scares me a lot as another Canadian... police here have to remember force =/= correct
Even knows that cops langauge was highly inappropriate, walking away from them is not a good idea. Many police are just itching for an excuse to "restrain" you and ensure compliance via beating the shit out of you, maybe tazering you for good measure. It happens all the time. Every day, every suburb, police beat people, its just how the world is.
Alright, so I've followed through with the complaint and I'm fairly happy that I got to ruin his day. At the professional standard branch (internal affairs), I was told they like to do creative punishment, even if it's like going out to dinner with the cop lol. So, the cop would've been suspended for 2 weeks unpaid, or some other creative punishment. I chose to really ruin his day and teach him something cause suspensions like a vacation anyways, so I chose that he had to undergo training and anger management again, and he has to have a supervisor watching him all the time now. I thought that was a great way to show this asshole that he can't just do that. They still say the takedown was legal because i was in the area of a crime or some bullshit, but my description didn't even match at all and I most certainly wasnt wearing a red hat that was reported. I also have really long hair, I don't know how I'd be mistaken for somebody else, it's just stupid. The takedown wasn't a standard police one you see on TV either, he just fucking tossed me, then decided I wasn't complying because I was crying about my back pain, so he decided to give me more back pain and knee me in the metal in my back... I doubt that's how they're supposed to do it. My lawyer even says they're trying to cover cause he says he knows that's total bullshit. Anywho, my lawyer says it's not even worth going after because I'd only end up with a couple thousand after legal fees and stuff. Thanks for reading, and I'm glad this cop fuck is going to be pissed off for a while and so he doesn't do it again. I've been hearing stories about the same guy lately, and lots of them involve him having this enraged crazy face and won't let you go away even though it's completely legal. He's fucked and he deserves to waste hours in training again.
So u got to choose, ? I red ur story not a nice one at all, tho the out come sounds great, classes for anger, would they be inforced, and a supivisor man i diss loke being watched while i work, so they sound like good ones, maby he was just looking for some quick time off, Hope ur backs feeling better, enjoy u win ?,0
do it anyways.a couple grand is better than nothing and its free money.lawyer and legal fees come out of the settlement so you wont even miss that money.
I think Colimon's decision reflected restraint and character that the cop did not possess... sent a very good message. It also stopped short of doing significant financial damage to someone demonstrably not in control of his anger and would likely carry a grudge; it showed to anyone willing to process the information that the cop fucked with someone who is respectable and clearly did not deserve to be treated that way.
id go for the cash man. you deserve it! Either way good job not taking shit from anybody. Society needs more people like you who arnt afraid to exercise their rights!
right on! i'd still take it to court, even with the fees. i have a sense of social obligation to my fellow countrymen though...
