Various cities canceled them this year and last due to budget problems. For some cities, that's something that hasn't happened in many decades or has never happened in peace time. The economic landscape in the U.S. appears to be changing. .
You do know about 48 states went default on July 1st. The media is not talking about it. Big surprise. They’ve run out of credit… lies and excuses. And now, in 2010, the evidence is bubbling to the surface: Colorado Springs has let 1/3rd of its streetlights go dark… sold police helicopters on eBay… and halted all street paving. Arizona plans to sell – then lease back – its State House and Senate buildings… a desperate one-time move to raise cash. Illinois’ liquid assets have dipped below $1 million… as they scramble to limit fallout from a giant $39 BILLION deficit. States from Kansas to Hawaii have considered bills to cut the five-day school week down to four… or cancel entire grade-years altogether. Los Angeles has called for ALL city agencies (save Fire and Police) to cut back to a 3-day workweek. The capital of Pennsylvania has already skipped its 2010 debt payments… and has been downgraded to “high risk junk” by Moody’s. And Toledo, Ohio admits it may have to lay off EVERY government employee. Isnt going into economic slavery fun!
The media didn't want to spoil the mood for the July 4th festivities (assuming your city had enough money for them). .
Well that does put a damper on things. I checked my information. It is 48 states. I need to stop posting from memory.
Hell, they cut services and reduced salaries all year to pay for fireworks and parades. Can't disrupt the illusion of peace, prosperity and freedom y'know.
my city might have had some for Canada day but I have no idea..I didnt go to town...I hate seeing tax money explode in the air
understandably but, fireworks brings a in a crowd of thousands of people in the city of pittsburgh.. If you was to go to mt washington above the burgh you would have to get there at 4 pm to have a seat.. Below that is carson st its packed with people also.. now not so much as it used to be because the partial lift of home fireworks on the 4th, Rockets and flying ones are prohibited but they dont care very much.. It used to be dead here on the 4th no people had fireworks.. It was like war zone this 4th/5th and still this weekend.. lol..
I dont have to go, I can see the entire Ohio river up and down stream from my house.. If you went to the attic roof you can see, 2 other neighboring towns fireworks also..
