Alrighty, I must say, two albums I purchased and listened to and ended loving the entire thing are: 1. Medulla-Bjork 2. Lions-Black Crowes So, is there an album out there that you bought and played intro to outro and just loved?
Yes--Fragile. At the time, I had only heard a few of their songs, which I did'nt like. Loved fragile though, my favorite.
David Gray "white ladder". I really bought it for one song, I had never heard of him....but the whole album was good. His voice sounds a bit like Bob Dylan which is what got me interested in him......not surprisingly Dylan is his greatest influence.
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News I got it without knowing who the hell MM were, and loved it.
Something I got this year that is just an absolute pleasure from start to finish is Espers - S/T (2004) Something I was pleasantly surprised with just how good (and trippy in places) the album was, coming at it just knowing this guys early 60's pop music was Del Shannon's late 60's album "The Further Adventures of Charles Westover" here's the lowdown from www.allmusic.com "This lesser-known cult favorite is not only one of the most musically ambitious outings of Del Shannon's career, but also one of his most all-around consistent albums. The Further Adventures of Charles Westover finds Shannon embracing psychedelia in a personalized way: Instead of imitating the whimsy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, or the creepy freak-outs of Their Satanic Majesties Request, he uses the cinematic quality of psychedelic pop to provide a vivid backdrop for his songwriting. For instance, "Silver Birch" uses a swirling mass of horns and densely layered backing vocals to add a haunting quality to its tale of an abandoned bride, and "Color Flashing Hair" uses vertiginous string motifs and churning horns to re-create the feelings of obsessive love described in the lyrics. Shannon's work on this album also differs from usual psychedelic fare because it mixes some earthier textures into its sonic brew: "Be My Friend" enhances its lusty plea for feminine companionship with wailing harmonica and gospel-tinged female backing vocals, and "River Cool" laces its swinging beat with some deliciously soulful organ licks. The overall effect is stunning, managing to fit the tag of psychedelic pop but still retaining the haunting, emotional kind of songwriting that distinguished Del Shannon's music." Anyone who enjoys albums like psych-pop albums Odessey and Oracle, or Gandalf - S/T would really enjoy this
I was a bit dissapointed by it myself..i bought it for one one song (probably the same as yours) but it just did not do anything for me..were is he know ??? http://www.davidgray.com/ oh there he is I was probably expecting too much but the world is not a worse place for him being in the music business .. I was pleasantly suprised with Kasabians new album.. i hope they become more massive than they are now.. http://www.kasabian.co.uk/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/news/altnews/041125_kasabian.shtml
nellie mckay- get away from me ryan adams- love is hell and lions as well, luv it, though i wasn't surprised
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea this was a band that i had never heard one song of theirs before i got it. I just kept on hearing good things about this album, so i thought i would have to get it, and i loved it! I believe the decemberists took influence from this band a bit, vocal wise at least they sound sort of similar.
Fancy getting this one myself, someone recommended me it recently cause I like a couple of other Elephant 6 bands (Olivia Tremor Control and Apples In Stereo)
jamie cullum- thought was gonna be john-mayeresque but was very individual and had great ties to jazz, kinda bringing jazz to a more popular level, i was impresed
