I was brushing out thinking... I don't really know. I knew I didn't want what I had anymore. After I got my first dread going I decided I would not brush for a bit and see what happens. I may brush them out at the end of the summer, but will keep these at least until then.
Fact. Neglect/natural dreads are much harder to brush out than backcombed dreads. I have straight hair again and likely will for the next 8 months. Gonna go for my first hair cut in... over two years. not a clue really how long it has been. I'm going to enjoy them washing my hair though. In fact, I am going to ask them to do it as long as they possibly can. =) Massage my scalp bitches! haha
I didn't take any up close pictures of them before I combed. They were getting pretty bad ass. I know I will dread again and I will go neglect again. I loved watching htem knot up and enjoyed my appearance much more in the beginning then when I backcombed. I got a job teaching and would rather not have it become an issue. I was hired with my dreads, no problem, but since I have a lot of loose hair, it makes them more discreet. but there is little left and the dreads are going to be much more noticeable soon. I contemplated leaving some, but just figured I start again when the term is done. =)
Fair enough... But neglect is.... neglect. If you start after the term, it will be just starting to look it's most offensive to those who disapprove of dreads in time for next years school. I mean, there's a long period between the "they slept on it funny" and the "damn, those are mature" stages. A loooooong period. I started at christmas hoping to have something close to locks in 4-5 months, for the summer and my summer employers sake. HAH. Turns out I started just in time that in 2 years they might not mind it so much.
damn i was hoping to see them as they progressed. but thats cool too long as you're good with it have fun with the hair wash tell 'em to get in there deep
