Okay, I've been ordering my spores from earths tongue for over 2 years now and I've always grown their amazonian strain. My last two syringes are growing really weird, tho. The jars took longer and there was a contamination problem, the mushrooms aren't growing like they should in the case, and they are looking extremely different from what they used to. The caps are real dark instead of the more golden brown color. Some of the cakes aren't taking off at all either in the cases. We have tried absolutely everything to get these puppies to sprout like crazy but to no avail. We used to get an oz, maybe more of dried mushrooms per case. Now we are lucky to get a half oz of dried out of each case. The guy at earths tongue said its a real popular strain. Has anyone else had any issues with earths tongue spores recently? I feel he's starting to get kind of shady and sending us diff strains than what he says they are. We just ordered some more and he said he would specifically make some of the amazonians just for us so we will see with that. but any info anyone here could give me that would help out?
mushrooms strains lose their vigor after a while. so what a vendor must do is re-work(master cultures on agar--advanced mycology) the strain to get good results again. this often takes a lot of time and effort but is well worth the end result. chances are he is sending the same amazonian strain it just hasn't been re-worked for the past 2 years so now the genetics are starting to go haywire and not deliver as consistently as it was 2 years ago. ET is a good dude and if he said he is reworking the strain then I would personally belive him.
Yeah we have always had good results with him before. He didn't mention anything about reworking them. All he said was he was currently out of stock but was going to make some the next day. He probably needs to go back to the original strain cause we aren't getting shit for mush right now. if he doesn't do that, I'm going with a new supplier. But I'm sure he will make sure these next ones are good.
good point. he could have just had old stock, or bad stock...could be a lot of things. that was just the first that came to my mind. I personally use prints and after a few months of printing the same strain of mushrooms, the genetics get pretty unpredictable so I have 3 choices. move onto another strain, re-buy the strain, or re-work the strain on agar to get a master culture to print from again. it's no where near as easy as it sounds though without a HEPA filtered fan. you may want to look into agar propogation once you get the hang of cultivation down.
We actually have a hepa filtered fan. We take every precaution with our growing. Yeah, I'm considering possibly working on my own strains, making my own spores, etc. Eventually. Any good strains you guys recommend? I've had a lot of luck with amazonians, and ETs storm chasers were good, but they've been out of stock for 2 years. I've only bought spores from ET. I need some that are really fast colonizers with brown rice and vermiculite. I use a 50/50 mix of peet moss and vermiculite for my casing soil. Then just mix in the right amount of water, cook it to sterilize it, then after casing them, I just give it air every so often and keep the lids closed. Right now, we got some that are quite large and lifted the lid way off. Lol. But I'm looking for some real potent ones, like extremely potent, that are great for indoor growth with brown rice and vermiculite.
the most potent strains imo are albino PE. albino strains in general are more potent than regular cubes and PE in general are more potent than regular cubes. my personal choices are APE,PE,PE UNCUT, albino A+ and PF Albino. another good potent cube is puertorican. none of those are really fast colonizers but they are all more potent than your average cubensis
Texas strain. You know what they say? Everything(s) bigger in Texas. Very Fast colonization and Very easy to fruit.
