Please excuse my questions, I'm a newbie and still only in the considering-dreads-phase:rolleyes:. I have very long hair (to just below my bum) and as I was surfing for dread-inspiration, I came upon this pic and have been utterly in love with the style ever since, and, if possible, these are the dreads I want.
So hoping you could help me out? :)

Thin dreads, created from backcomb, natural, twist 'n' rip or other, with a lot of root flippage.

    Root flippage?
Am I correct in thinking the hair nearer the scalp is more dreads (loose) than the ends, which to me look as if they have been more or less plaited as well?

Where you take the tip at the bottom of a dread and thread it through the root of the dread.

I have no idea what you're trying to say with the hair nearer the scalp being dreaded

But the bottom of her hair is not plaited, it's the texture that happens as a result of root flipping, which in its self, fucks up the strength of the hair shaft.

Is there a better method that could be used to obtain that look, without fucking up the strength of the hair?

I think it depends what exactly from that pic you like... if you like the colour your going to need dye maybe bleach if you have dark hair, but your from Denmark so Im guessing you have light hair. If you like the thickness of the dreads you will need to make 2 cm (roughly) sections. Most people go for squares but I think random shapes within the dimensions is better (in my opinion). If it's the texture (or the perceived texture) you are after I think that could be attained by the twist and rip method. Instead of twisting in the opposite direction every other rip, twist in the same direction longer before you changed directions.

her hair colour is definately a henna red (i do mine the same way, and that's the kind of red you get)

and i'd say backcombed and root flipped
if you don't root flip too often the damage to your hair will be minimal... but natural dreads look nice IMO, since your hair is so long i'd say stop brushing today, and keep washing, and see what kind of progress you've made in a few months :)

Small sections, backcomb the section, rip the section in two and then two strand twist. Then leave it alone and let it cook.
