Lately the vision in my right eye has been degrading badly, so I saw the eye doctor today and was told I have a cataract. I'm going in to have it examined on Monday. Thank God I have insurance thru work. I'm 56, didn't think I might have to deal with this until I was in my 70s. I'm not too clear as to what I'm in for. I'm glad I live in an age where a cataract can be removed, but still I'm kinda depressed right now. Has anyone else been thru this?
Yep, I've had both eyes done. Now, both eyes see better than they ever did before. I go many days without wearing glasses or contacts, but if I'm driving or watching hi-def, I'll put in my contacts.
I had my cataracts removed a couple of year ago. I wore glasses from the time I was 8 - I am now 62. God bless cataract surgery. I now see with no glasses or contacts. I can read books, watch tv. Thank God for insurance because it paid for the procedure. It has been one of the most gratifying things of my recent life. Go for it man!!
I am 60+, and until a few years ago, never needed glasses. Now, I've got some sort of fluid in my left eye, that gives a sort of smoky, veiny, type transparency, and "floats" around as I move my eye. My optometrist says it's nothing to worry about "right now", but she'll monitor it to see if it gets any worse. Anybody had anything like this that ultimately turned into cataracts?
Sounds like a vitreous detachment. These are common, but you should see a retinal specialist, not an optometrist, to make sure it isn't developing into retinal detachment, which of course is way more serious.
I think you've got it! That sounds familiar enough to be what she explained to me. I just might get a referral to a specialist, to check it out. Thanks!
