Little weird spiky fucking things, if you try to pick them up they curl up into a ball. They look like giant horse chestnuts. I'm glad I'm not one of them anyway, that would suck living in a hedge all your life and having to eat bugs to survive.

I've always wanted one as a pet. They look fun to hold.

I've never tried, you need special gloves.

My niece has two pet ones and they are actually really cute little things. They only curl up when nervous.

In captivity I don't think they require insects to survive, they can live off of cat food.

Also - you don't need to use special gloves. They have poor eye sight so their best sense is their sense of smell. By wearing gloves they can't smell your scent and don't warm up to you. Once they warm up to you they hurt a lot less! :D

The only porcupines over this way are the ones kept in zoos. I would love to find one in the wild though!!

Are porcupines & hedgehogs related species? Or is this an example of convergent evolution?

There are plenty of them around here along with raccoons, beavers, and eastern cottontail’s who are always hanging out in my backyard.

They look innocent enough until they get into the garden

Foxes and moles cause a nuisance in our gardens. Badgers were around quite often too. But, I don't really mind them - my dog, mind you, is worse. Last year, he would constantly dig up our daffodil bulbs. Just dig, for fun

The cat keeps the moles in check; all I have to do is collect the shredded disemboweled remains

My cat once brought a baby squirrel into the house :(

I wasn't impressed with that present
