Where did the taboo of nudity come from?

when we evolved into humans from apes and lost all our fur, we had to replace it with something, so clothes came about

Hmm, OK, that's practicability, since we didn't want to freeze to death. However, in warm seasons, there's no practical need for clothing. And therefore, no reason not to go nude - aside from someone defining it as "indecent" or "sinful" or "fill-in-the-blank" to show one's nude body.

And, quite frankly, if I had a time machine, I'd go back to that point in time to knock the guy who invented that taboo (I'm pretty sure it was a man!) unconscious before he could preach his idea, take him to a lonely mountain cave and persudaing him to become an hermit rather than talking publicly.

    :D

Wiggling bare toes, currently shamelessly skyclad, too and flipping the finger at taboos,

Well, if Adam, that dumb guy, hadn't rejected Lilith , Christian tradition would be slightly different... but he couldn't keep up with a woman who didn't want to be subservient to him (and, as folklore has it, did not want to lie below him when you know what, but was a clear top woman, too!! :D )

Wiggling toes of a man who would gladly have stayed with Lilith... (come to think of it - I should take that time machine to take Adam's place...).

that's not much of an explanation: why would we have "evolved" to lose fur if we still needed warm coverings? That's not how evolution's supposed to work.

    Good point.

Maybe we started wearing clothes first, therefore all our fur fell out.

I would blame puritanism personally. But I guess the shame of nudity may date back even before that.

Then again it seems that society puts nudity and sex together hand in hand. It is also evident that the only shame people have over nudity is genitalia; once again covering the issue of sex.

What amazes me is the ones complaining the most are usually the ones with the dirtiest minds. Finding or imagining things where there isn't anything. Just like the people that find lyrics in music that aren't there.

Nudist think nothing of being nude around others, while puritians think Hedonism and sex parties will be running rampant with just a nipple in view.

I would love to be able to be at my own back yard pool and have my friends over, those that want to go nude can, those that don't can wear suits. Sadly, the suited ones win out every time, (as we don't want our guest to be uncomfortable) as I'm told. So if just one doesn't want to strip we all have to wear swim suits. Really pisses me off.
If I were at their house and they wanted to stay nude I'd be ok with it, just use proper etiquette. I may not strip but I'd be ok if they stayed nude. If they stripped after I was there I'd have to wonder why. Just get home? etc...

But I kinda understand some not wanting to see other people nude though. If you're not comfortable seeing nakedness of all shapes and sizes it could be a bit repulsive. But it's just nude, not lewd.

My SIL knows I'm a nudist and usually stay nude at the pool but she has never walked in on me there. The other day she saw me nude for the first time, front and back, I'd had enough and decided to stay nude, now she's acting all freaked out, even though she says she doesn't mind it's pretty freakin obvious it is.
I'm 5'-7", 155, good shape, stay fit, but she's not used to seeing other people nude so it freaked her out. To her it's like it's not natural to see anyone other than your spouse naked.
Even my wife doesn't care if her sister or who ever sees me nude, she knows it has nothing to do with sex, that's between us. But, she doesn't want to make people uncomfortable so I have to suit up at the pool and cover up in the house.

IMO, proper etiquette is the key. Having a dinner party with lots of guest, sure wear clothes unless it's understood to be a clothing optional party, but if I'm downstairs getting my morning coffee at the crack of dawn and my SIL or whomever walks in, they sees what she see, chillin by my pool, suits are always optional, or should be anyway.

Society puts nudity and sex hand in hand because we live in a clothing oriented society in which we are taught as children that nudity is wrong and/or shameful.
