NOT TRUE. The cops here are out of control, they have lost every shred of human decency. A few months ago a woman here got pulled over for drunk driving. Everything from the second she pulled over was on video. She did NOTHING but try and cooperate, all yes sir, no sir, stuck her hands out like they said, got outa the car like they said, kneeled down like they said, then they came and smashed her face into the ground, kicked her, cuffed her, smashed her into the car hood etc. Turned out she was actually someone rather important and had money. Usually you would think in a case like that there would be a huge uproar. Nope. The cops quietly got fired, there was one story about it in the back of the paper and that was it. I know she was sueing them, but never heard anymore of it. Heck I get pulled over for doing 7 over the speed limit on a parkway, hands on the wheel, yes mam, no mam and the lady is treating me like I just assulted her and tried to run or something.
It's not a solid rule, heck last week it was a huge news story how a cop in Seattle decked some teenage girl in the face, just like not all cops are dicks, but the fact still remains a lot of cops are dicks, and if you're a girl you're most likely not going to be physically assaulted by the police, sexually harassed sure. But it's hard to argue someone 1/2 your size was either being a threat or managing to resist arrest. Heck or even be arrested, this being the weed forum, 91% of all arrests for simple possession of marijuana are male, now either men just like smoking weed that much more or there's something else at work here. 91% isn't an exaggeration either, police are both racist and sexist, if you're a black male, do not leave your house: http://www.nyclu.org/files/MARIJUANA-ARREST-CRUSADE_Final.pdf
nah ur just a pussy. bringing up rodney king and la riots, dude stfu. people die everyday in other countries fighting oppression. you think cause a couple buildings burn and people get bruised that we should all fold up. gtfo fake ass rebel. if reginald denny had half a brain he would have stepped on the gas an ran over all the rioters.
Please do not take this any further in this direction. Personal attacks and name calling do not foster a welcoming atmosphere for others to join the discussion.
So is a lesson not quite a moron? Probably more or less, but I agree with the sentiment that we all ask to be abused by our peace keeping mandates.
What?? Calling someone a moron or pussy or whatever else, because you disagree with them does nothing for your argument and doesn't foster a welcoming environment for debate.... it only illustrates how easily things can get out of hand and is somewhat metaphorical of the incident related in the OP. If all we can do is verbally bludgeon each other when there is disagreement then there's little hope that the general level of incivility that is the petri dish for ignorance and hatred that are at the core of so many problems with society in general. Dealing with one another in this way is not a route to problem solving, it only creates new problems and exacerbates old ones.
 "Moron" was coined in 1910 by psychologist Henry H. Goddard from the Ancient Greek word μωρός (moros), which meant "dull" (as opposed to "sharp"), and used to describe a person with a mental age in adulthood of between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale Based on the intelligence and maturity of solwarrior's initial post; calling for what amounts to rioting in response to the incident in question and the subsequent response to my commenting on solwarrior's aforementioned post I believe that I made a fair and accurate assessment of solwarrior's mental and emotional development based on the above original usage of the word "moron". I will try to refrain from using profanity in the future unless the topic of the thread warrants it's use.
I mean we want to beat and be beaten, to keep the heathen at bay. We marshal armies and police forces to protect ourselves from each other. The first line was a joke, my point was the second and was along the lines of what orison suggested. I protest even the appearance of evil. Without crime there would be no criminal.
Concluding this to yourself and offering it up for general consumption are two very different things. If you believe what someone posted is stupid then it's best to limit your response to their argument and keep your thoughts on their character and/or mental abilities to yourself. While I agree that inciting a riot solves nothing... apart from gross dignifying police overreactions as described in the OP, I can fully empathize with the rage that inspires it. That rage is raw energy that can be put to good use if those who experience it can learn how to harness that energy. Name calling as a response to a rash overreaction... which is what rioting is... does nothing but ensure that the person will never be willing to see your point of view... much the same as him calling you a pussy... equally uncalled for and NEITHER has any place in civil debate.
I got that part... it was the "So is a lesson not quite a moron?" that is crashing my internal logic centers... I realize there's a metaphor... perhaps you are interpreting the use of "moron" is directed at the rhetoric and not its author??
Well, the main thing I notice is that everyone is so quick to jump to the conclusion that the OP is completely innocent and a victim here. I'm sorry people, but be honest with yourselves here, THAT HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED YET! It still remains as his word against theirs. For everyone here to start railing against ALL police based on the actual LACK of information available here is ridiculous. It falls into the same camp as those who proclaim that all pot smokers are worthless losers and end up becoming heroin addicts and a drain on society. It has no basis in the reality surrounding this situation. Every person is unique, that goes for the police as well as anybody on this forum. I'm sure none of you like being lumped together into the same derogatory classification, as many are doing regarding ALL police based on the actions of a few criminals that just happen to wear badges. Hey in my time I have met a lot more violent criminals who identified with and called themselves "hippies" then I have any violent, criminal police. As far as my referring to someone as a moron based upon the content of their postings here and expressing that conclusion, please explain to me how that is any different than what most all the posts in this thread are doing in regards to police? People are making conclusions about police in general and those specifically involved in this incident based on very little info and the word of a young man who by his own admission WAS drunk and disorderly and then continued such behavior after the "beating" occurred. Am I the only one that is able to look at this objectively? I am not condoning police brutality nor am I condoning public drunkenness. I am withholding any judgment about this particular incident until after July 16 when his case goes before a judge, and after that they can sort out what happened in the jail cell. I'm not saying the kid is lying, and I'm not saying he isn't, I don't know either way, and nobody else that has commented in this thread thus far does either except for the OP. What because he posts in HF we should just automatically assume he is being truthful? Don't be so naive.
Don't wear an eye patch anymore. I replaced my bad eye with one I ripped out of a light snack I had a couple of years ago. Pretty little thing she was and tasty too. The color doesn't match, but it works ok.
Speaking of the Greek origin of the word moron, did you know the word idiot also dates back to ancient Greece, especially Athens, where it was considered dishonorable not to take part in public life, especially Athenian democracy, and idiots were people with bad(or complete lack of) judgment on social and political matters.
I didn't interpret it as a case of him being completely innocent but any offense that might justify the beating he received would have landed him in prison without bail pending the felony trial. I contend that what the police did was outrageous and only contributes to the bad rep they already have. If I were a cop that would have pissed me off... not at the camera person but at the men in uniform. Perhaps it's a bit naive of me- albeit willfully so- that I expect justice to be just that- and not the lynch mob rush to judgment mind set that afflicts the diseased brains of those whose careers are built on arrest and conviction statistics that tries to justify such brutality as acceptable consequence on fighting crime. Committing assault under the guise of apprehending a suspect does not dignify the role of law enforcement..
Not only should they be charged when they overstep the law (even if doing it to uphold another law), they should also be charged with a breach of trust. These people have sworn oaths to uphold the laws they then break. If found guilty they should receive the maximum sentence for that crime in addition to the penalty for breach of trust. As for the idea that attacking the police is the same as someone attacking a stoner... there is actually a huge difference... If a male stoner went and punched a chick in the face, a lot of other other stoners would step up to stop it... When a cop does it, even one of the 'good' cops, will back their play, precisely because they are all cops, and 'you don't go against your own'...
