If there's something that I even had to QUESTION about consuming in relation to the health of my child, I'd automatically avoid it. Just the fact that the RISK is there would make me avoid it until I delivered the child. My goodness people!!

And here we have someone who has not done their research! The only dependancy one can develop to marijuana is a psychological dependancy & a psychological dependancy cannot be passed on to a baby.

Now, here are a few interesting bits for thought, even if they are slightly off-topic:

I had some painful spasms in my lower left lung that sent me to the hospital...when I mentioned my marijiana use, the nurse said that he had nothing bad to say about pot but that it would be healthier to eat it than to smoke it.

After a recent surgery, I developed blood clots in my legs which traveled to my lungs, called pulminary embolisms, a dangerous condition that kills more people than the flu. The doctors asked if I smoked & I honestly replied that I hadn't smoked tobacco in 2 1/2 years but that I smoked marijuana on a fairly regular basis. All of the doctors replied that marijuana would not have caused the problem.

And here is my point concerning marijuana & pregnancy: Smoking anything is bad for your lungs but ingesting marijuana by other means has not been proven to cause harm to a fetus or to the mother. As one person pointed out, stress is much more dangerous to a fetus, and this I know from experience (please go back & read my first post)

My thoughts are...... don't do it. I know somebody who smoked marijuana "occassionally" during pregnancy and her child came out with a thyroid problem that required medication. Drugs and alcohol are never ok during pregnancy. Our systems are already developed so they affect us completley differently than they affect the highly sensitive developing systems of unborn babies. Over the counter things like aspirin and cough syrups are a bad idea during pregnancy and doctors tell us not to use them..they even advise women to stay awat from caffeine.....so using weed or drinking a glass of wine every once in a while should be out of the question in my opionion. You wouldnt be able to reverse any damage that you may cause. Why risk it?

Lots of opinions with no facts.. There's been some good research done by Dr. Dreher in Jamaica on this exact topic. Great stuff to look into! Showed actual IMPROVEMENTS in the children whose mother's used.

I smoked only a handful of times with my first child (to get rid of the morning sickness about once a week so I could eat, the morning sickness was so bad I actually lost 15 lbs my first 3 months of pregnancy) I was under the impression it may do some harm, so I stayed away from it for the most part.

My second child though I did A LOT of research and came to the conclusion that it was fine. Prolly 4 times a week that pregnancy. Everything came out perfect.

Do your own research and make your own decision. =)

    I see it this way.
Smoking it occasionally is alright but we have to keep in mind that "smoking" marijuana takes oxygen away from the fetus.
Stress is alot more detrimental to an unborn child then occasional marijuana, so if you're going to flip your lid without it have it.
The thing I don't agree with, is you dont have consent from this little being.
Marijuana is a beautiful drug. But the thc isn't very good for their development that young.
So if I were a pregnant woman, and I absoloutly had to have pot before the 9 months were up. I'd probably eat special brownies.
I've heard stories of mothers smoking marijuana while pregnant and their child being perfectly fine. Even at the top of their class later in life.
It helps with morning sickness, and I think its really beneficial in a way to the mother in that scenario.
I guess it depends completly on the individual person. And what they want to do.
But really the only thing that would stop me, is the fact that my views and my beleifs aren't something to be pushed on to anyone else, including the unborn.
I'd rather educate my child one day about marijuana and have them make a decision.

where exactly are you getting the info that thc is bad for them during their early development? Is this a provable fact or just opinion? I'm just curious, because if it comes from a study or something I'd like to look at it.

On the oxygen note.. well, most of the population practices shallow breathing, breathing shallow constantly probably has a worse effect on fetal oxygen deprevation than smoking sessions. lol.

But certainly edibles or a vaporizer would be ideal.

Well Ive also heard that if you smoke marijuana they can tell in the blood work you have when you're pregnant. And you can have the baby taken away from you.

That is simply not true. In Canada any way. My goodness!! Can you imagine the number of people who would have lost their children by now? They can't tell you they are testing for gestational diabetes and pull a "ah ha! we knew you were on weed".

lol. its true down here in the states.. but then again they have to find that in your blood- which you agree to all testing done (though most people don't pay attention to what they sign or agree to with dr.s) then the dr. has to make the decision whether to report it..

so in essense. if you get your kids taken away for that.. well.. shoulda been more aware and protected yourself..

id like to throw a few comments in here.... my fiancee and i live in northern cali and are very fortunate to do so, california being one of the few states that issue and recognize pot recomendations. my fiancee has her recomendation and is pregnant, so everytime we go to the hospital for anything we get the same speal from different nurses about how there isnt any proof either way if it hurts or aids in fetus developement, as long as she has the paperwork legalizing her use of marijuana then there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do legaly to her and our child/children. we do have to see the looks and hear the degradive comments closeminded individuals tend to heap on you for it though. but thats the price we pay for our physicalk and mental comferts and a price we pay gladly!

thank you for allowin a pothead to throw a few words in, smoke one with me!

Obviously the facts are in dispute with experts so I certainly don't know, but after watching my SIL have kid after kid with problems I am suspicious enough of her marijuana use during pregnancy that I would not touch it.

Her eldest (now 16) is behind the 8 ball, socially inept, on medication to control his extreme hyperactivity, and considered to be mildly autistic. The next child (10) can barely put a coherent sentence together, has been diagnosed with a fairly severe autism and attends a special school. The next one down is only 4 and whilst nothing diagnosed as yet, she was considered 'not socially mature' enough yet to attend pre-school, and well, something is clearly just not right with her either. My son is half her age but doubles her developmentally, socially, with co-ordination, everything, and that cant be right. Personally I think she has a bit of autism going on too. The youngest has just turned one, so cant say anything as yet, but I woud not bat an eyelid if that one turned out to have some sort of mental problem too - he has certainly had a few health problems, tho nothing too drastic. .

3 different fathers for the 4 kids too, so I spose that should theoretically lessens the chances of bad gene combinations with 2 given parents only, ...the one constant tho has always been her marijuana use. Heavy Use! Daily!

I cant prove MJ is the cause, and maybe it would be ok on occassion, but I just would not risk it - esp not after how the neices and nephews turned out. Just Incase.

The general rule is no unnescesary drugs during pregnancy. (No, pot is NOT nescessary)

I think you should put you and the baby's needs before marijuana. Just my opinion.
