I figured i start this by asking everyone what makes you diffrent then everyone in a crowd, Why are YOU a Hippy???
Its just who I am....its a belief system , much like a religious belief but deeper. Its not something I try to be....its just me....if that makes any sense....... I owe my parents a big thank you for molding me in the right direction.
Interesting question...I posed a similuar question long ago... I've sinced learned, observed, hippies or like birds... They each fly in their own way...there's many species of birds within the bird family...a duck, owl, crow, Robin, fench, sparrow, vulture, hawk, humming bird...but their all birds... That's kind of the hippie umbrella...in my opinion... It's a vast spectrum...and a generational thing also... A Hippie born in 1990 might not have the same vision as one born in 1970... There's activist orientated hippies, and then there's druggy orientated hippies... Some hippies pride themselves in having no moral bounderies at all...other hippies have strict moral perimeters they operate within... Are Greenpeace protesters hippies?? Are deadheads hippies?? And what, if anything do they have in common with Green peace hippies?? Other hippies believe in living naturally off the land...this was big back in the 60's and early 70's when land was still cheap...many of those hippies who brought that cheap land, are now millionares once the price of that realistate went way up and Walmart moved in... But my point being...like birds...it's a similuar classification, but many different species within with different instincts and behavioral patterns...
I think I come from the more spiritual leaning hippie faction... But there are also pagan factions as well... But the question you asked leads one to wonder how can a pagan and a spiritual soul both consider themselves hippies...? I think, or would hope, that it would be 'objectivity'... In other words...not being closed minded... In other words, what might seperate a hippie christian from a non hippie christian is that the hippie christian would be less inclined to judge and or condemn others, and able to move in and out of different peoples and cultures and sexual orientations... Where as a 'normal' christian would take issue with that... And the same with a pagan hippie...a pagan hippie would be or should be so happy and confident in their belief system that hanging around spiritual people should not, and would not upset their own belief system...and so they end up focusing more on what they have in common rather than what disagree about... I think hippies have the ability to merge in and out of different groups more easily, do to their, our, ability to think objectivly and without judgement or condemnation...
i'm not a hippie; i dont think i look like one or act like one, and i don't claim to be one. i suppose i do have some hippie-esque beliefs, and i do like to think of myself as a bit of a free thinker as someone else mentioned above.
Again...I think hippies are like ghosts, in that they, we, have the ability to merge in and out of different ideologies, without loosing ourselves to any one of them...
^^ i don't see how someone who is a christian can call themselves a hippie... i'm not saying it is so, just for me, it doesn't make sense... if you are a christian, then surely you are not a free thinker? you have chosen to think and exist within a christian framework, and are no longer a free thinker....?
great to here everyones thoughts on the subject, and i love to see how diffrent everyone is but yet all the same in our own ways, peace n love to you all
well, yeah... definitely hugs to all... just my views on what being a hippie is will differ vastly from some others... that's cool can any christian hippies share with me/us what being a hippie means to them... just want to understand better...
hippie is not about love, peace or drugs. neither stinking or dressing weird. hippie means consciousness, or if you like it best being aware of the substantial artificiality and untruthfulness of social conventions and rules. this is the greatest moment in history to be hip : the contradictions between the actual state of our world and lives and what is officially claimed as truth are bold and scary. we are at the eve of political, economical, demographic and environmental collapse , yet everyone is ignoring the crackling of our world society. but awareness alone is just the first step, useless if awareness does not bloom into action.
Lifestyle. Honestly this question seems to come up alot. I guess it is a good thing since there are still alot of stereotypes going around about what constitutes a hippie. If you read all of my posts in all of the other threads on similar topics you will get a more detailed answer to what makes me a hippie. I've said it over and over. I'm not going to beat it over the head and leave it at that. Peace Out, Rev J
