A really stupid person just sterilized the substrate-filled jars without the tin foil on 'em. Recommendations? Should the really stupid person just boil a pot of water on the stove and sterilize the foil separately while waiting for the substrate jars to cool before inoculation? Or start all over because the moisture content is messed up since the inoculation holes were exposed throughout the pressure cooker sterilization process?
All the foil does is prevent water from dripping on the top of the jars from the top of the pressure cooker. They most likely will be fine.
Maybe sacrifice one by opening it up and seeing how wet the substrate feels. If it got extra wet, start over or you'll waist the spores. If it seems about the right moisture, you should be fine. I have had some get too wet in a PC before even with tin foil....I'm not sure how it got so wet.....but I just dumped it and started over. It's better to start over than waist a lot of time with something that won't work.
if you aint inoculate nuffin, take you substrate that mushy toss in a bowl and add verm, or let it dry.. you dont have to throw it away, just re-sterilize it..
the only thing that would be off is the moisture content, which could have you ending up with a substrate mushies won't grow on. You could take the substrate out of the jars and let it dry out a bit before re sterilizing it if you really want to save it. It's just one batch though, just make more?
