I've been thinking about getting a camera...this will be my first digital. I'm looking for something with greaat zoom, takes good low-light pictures, and is easy to use. I'm more interested in nature pics...

So basically I was wondering if you could recomend a camera?

I'm trying to stay under $700

    Thanks so much

I saw this earlier and thought about replying... didn't feel I could really give as objective a rating of cameras as another but since this thread has not gotten a deserved reply I'll chime in...

I currently own a Canon PowerShot SX10IS. I like this camera very much. It's a 10mp camera with a 20x optical zoom- which is what attracted me. It cost me around $400; takes 4 AA batteries... I recommend disposable lithium like (Energizer E²) because they last a good long time- pricey though... I also selected this because it has a manual mode- which I use as often as possible in order to better prepare myself for when I get a DSLR- which will be a considerably larger investment- particularly with the lenses I intend to get.

I own this one. It's like 400 quid here, so that's probably around 750 bucks. I have a friend with a degree in photography, and he believes that whilst he would never use a Nikon, for the money they are great and are particularly good if you're a beginner.

I recommend Nikon or Canon SLR camera's.

hey, the type of camera you get will depend on how seriously you want to go into photography. have you had much experience with film? do you know about apertures and shutter speeds and iso levels?
if you are wanting to take it seriously, then you have to go for a digital slr. but zoom is very expensive. but image quality and low light control is great. there are cameras like the canon 1000D(rebel xs), the sony alpha a230 and a330 and the nikon d3000 are all within your price range.
if you want zoom and easy to use, the canon PowerShot SX20 is the camera for you.
have a look at http://www.bhphotovideo.com, i've used them a few times with great success and good service
