I have managed to turn a blind eye to any news about the oil spill. If I had to watch them pulling dead turtles out of the water I'd be moping around all day every day knowing we're destroying these poor creatures homes.
pttf the news is flying over the oil huffing fumes, they get off on it.. that why were all fucking slaves to OIL.. this is their fucking drug!! .. Wake the fuck up !!!1
I want to go all out and join the Peace Corps. but you need a relevant 4 year degree really to get in.. and you cant get in if you have student loans.. this is going to be tough... Thats basically what theyre looking for down in the Gulf now
nice sig change man so wait...the peace corp is looking for people in the gulf? ...or are you saying that both the peace corp and volunteers to clean up have pretty strict qualifications?
The ironic thing with this spill(aside from the fact deepwater horizon blew up on earth day) is of the thousands of wells on the gulf coast, the vast, vast majority are in shallow water. Of course the one that has its drill over a mile below the surface is the one that has to explode.
I just saw one of the brothers of the men on board the ship that blew up speak in court, crying, and honestly... I have some sympathy. I do. But his speech was like "I will never see my brother again... BP TOOK HIS LIFE... he has a wife and kids and its ALL BPS FAULT :'(" Like, relax. People need to realize it was a bloody accident. I somewhat feel bad for BP too, even if they are a bunch of crooks. They are being sued for how many things already, and this guy and probably the rest of the families who had a loved one die in the ACCIDENT will too. I just think its a little unfair to place all the blame on the company, when clearly the men knew that they were working in a highly dangerous job, and with that probably signed a contract implying they are well aware of the risk of death. It's a big deal, someone dying. But if some worker died accidently on a little boat near there, and nothing came after, we wouldn't be watching their family sue their way around on CNN live. The families are taking pure advantage of the fact that the rest of America is mad at BP for the oil spill, which is the only reason they get so much coverage about this accident on TV. God!! This is just one big mess!!!! /rant.
This is the problem, emotions run high in this case due to the size of the spill and where it happened, but the fact is it was an accident. We're all as guilty as BP. Granted the accident happened to BP, but really, BP is one of the most advanced drilling companies in the world, it's why they're still in charge of trying to stop the leak, the government doesn't have either the technology or men with the expertise to do it. There's 4,000 rigs operating in the Gulf of Mexico off the US coast, most are in shallow continental shelf water, this one, of course the one that blows up was drilling where the sea bed was over a mile deep. BP is having to try to fix a leak that's never been done before, this is entirely new ground in terms of trying to stop an oil leak over a mile below the surface. But then again, BP was only drilling that well because they have the necessary demand to because we all want to live our awesome western lifestyles. So really who is to blame.
everybody is pissed at BP, and I probably wouldnt buy gas at a BP unless I needed to now, but theres a lot more too it than its BP's fault..I saw it all on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Ill post the video at the end of this, the "who's to blame" section starts around 4 mins into it. BP Chairman Lamar McKay, owns the rig, BP hired Transocean to drill the well, they are the owner of the Deep Water Horizon drilling rig and had responsibility for the safety of drilling operations. Steve Numan CEO of Transocean said that it was a catastrophic failure of the cement casing shoe for the deep sea rig, which was made by Halliburton, the chief health and safety adviser of Halliburton stated that it was a BOP blow out (something inside the cement shoe) which was caused by a dead battery that they knew about in a control panel. Also there is a government arm that is responsible for policing these companies through strenuous environmental impact studies on anyone applying to drill in the Gulf, the Minerals Management Service the MMS. CNN stated "in an initial exploration plan BP expected a spill to be "unlikely" so when BP sought permission to drill the Deep Water Horizon site MMS agreed and went along with it and gave the company a "categorical exclusion" from a more strenuous environmental impact study" so who's really to blame here eh? http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-may-13-2010/there-will-be-blame
I am going to Florida in August to Star Wars Celebration Five with a few life sized R2-D2s I built. If this oil spill has not been fixed by then and the hurricanes blow it all around I am seriously thinking of staying down there to help with the relief effort for the marine life afterwords.
It is one big nasty mess, which makes me sad. but what makes me even sadder, is we still havent come to the day where we are not constantly using oil. I would like to see other alternatives being used, or at least trying to get it in use. I am getting my wildlife rehab license, so soon i will be able to go down there and help treat the animals
