The bald people of Hairland. Part one. In Hairland there live two groups of people. One group is bald and one group has long hair. There are a few more people with long hair than there are people who are bald. The strong important governmental position is occupied by people with long hair. Hairland is a patriarchal state and everybody knows their position. There is very democratic birth control program to prevent parents of getting or taking bald babies. The president of Hairland is going to meet a delegation of Relatavia to trade. Relatavia criticized Hairland in some of their homeland issues. “We are concerned about the equal treatment of bald people in stuff like healthcare, education and employment.” Said one of the delegation members of Relatavia. Hairland: “You have to understand that in our culture only people with long hair can occupy jobs end education above average level. Therefore it’s very unpragmatic to spend our limited sources into people with bald hair. Besides it crucial for our good manners and order that education and healthcare are separated to the two groups in our society.” The delegation is grateful for the answer. They are proud in their tolerance of cultural difference. Many delegation members think it’s cultural imperialism if you call some system better than an other. Only the bald intellectual member is in an other opinion. “But what does genocide of bald people mean?” He said. “Do you mean our birth control programme?” Said one of the Hairland representatives. Ï can assure you, it’s very popular among bald people parents. Could you explain what you meant with: “But what does genocide of bald people mean?” “Of course I can. How could it be when there is by example a nature disaster, devaluation of the Zeuro the nation’s currency or if the croquet club lost a match in the World Series bald people get killed and tortured by people with long hair?” The people of Hairland are insulted because of this speech. It’s an assault on their culture they said. The people with long hair may do what they like to do if the Gods seem to be angry. Its calms them if they show people their power. This is clearly an insult in their traditional policies. By the way. Everybody knows that torturing and killing bald people is good. It’s as an example to show people the moral. If we don’t do so the bald people will become unmanageable. The president of Hairland asks a question. “You want to impose you values on us?” What should the people of Relatavia answer? Amiera speaking. Part one. This is an unlikely situation. There is discrimination in many societies based upon: race, religion, our other social criteria or think about positive discrimination. There even doesn’t have to be discrimination. In fact this essay is just based upon making difference in social criteria of people. It’s doesn’t have to be discrimination. We don’t have to argue about the logical fundament of the culture of Hairland. Who is arguing about the logical fundament of race persecution or equal facilities to educate woman? People of Relatavia won’t argue about it. With a relativistic opinion is meant that not every thing that’s good for us is good for they entire world. Some things are considerate as cultural imperialism. There is common law in many paces. In Saudi Arabia woman aren’t allowed to drive cars, in the many countries woman can get circumcise and in the US you can face the death penalty. How universal are the classical human right and aren’t they based on ethnocentricity? It’s good to think about this. I think it’s good if people are doubting in many things so I shall give it a try. Can Auswitch be justified if there aren’t any universal values or rights? According to Kant universal moral have to be an individual norm. So much stuff to think about. Take care,
Any action should be mutual. I'd say do unto others as you'd have done unto you, but if that's the law, I never want to meet a masochist, haha. So instead, I say do whatever you want if it hurts no one, in the sense that what I'm doing is either only affecting myself, or if it affects others, that they want it. It's important for people to have the option, the choice, of saying yes or no. Reletivism has it's place until this law is violated, and then it is right to step in. Look at the bee and the flower.
