Anyone? It's surprisingly groovy, in my opinion. I found a huge island of hippie communes with a Grateful Dead tribute map that includes a stage, hotel, Terrapin Station, and other goodies. I think SL is fun, even if it is a waste of time. Anyone else on SL/have any opinions on it/other comments?

I used to play when I was younger, but I stopped. I don't really remember why. Maybe I should give it another try. Can you tell me how did you find that island?

it's free, but there's a lot of work that goes into it if you want to do something big with it. you kinda need at least a gig of ram and good video card.

masively multi-participant environments DO tend to use 'client-server' systems, the reason for this is that the client end, the part you down load, can keep track of what you want things to looklike, instead of placing impossible demands on bandwith to keep up with it.

last i checked the download/client side, was still free.
the reason i haven't been back though, is that while you can explore to your hart's contend (untill you get tired of inadvertantly running into privace walls and being teleport before you can back away from them), but being creative is what they charge for, which is just redicuous to me.

well i do understand, i do and i don't. as long as servers are privatized, bandwidth has to be paid for somehow.

i'm just not interested in playing capitalism as long as i have irl to live in it.

if there's ever a completely free place to just create, instead of socialize or make war, i'll be a lot more interested.

that's my real dissappointment in second life. that its basically still a big chat kingdom, even if it is emersively three dimentional.

its the shapes and textures and colors and mazes of them and being able to make them yourself that i'm interested in. NOT in meeting people, even if they and you CAN make yourselves look pretty much how you'd like to.

and there's no way i see myself becoming that interested in PAYING to do that, even if and when i ever become able to afford to.

so instead i take my little free 3d authoring environments and make my little perdy pichers with them and upload them to online galleries, like f.a. and v.c.l. and biorust, and a few others, where people can see the kind of world i like, what it would look like a little bit.

i've ranted on this soap box before, i know, and almost certainly i will again.

greed has lowered the quality of the internet, however it may have contributed to creating it, just as it has the natural environment, to which it has contributed nothing.

Yeah I lost interest in it in less than a week i think. I havent played In a few days and not really worried about it. If I want to chat with people and be all "lol like omg i like your shoes" I could do that on here or facebook or maybe even face to face. The interface sucks anyways its slow to load and glitchy. I think it would be better if it had more of a creative side. I never got into building things because I think it takes lindens and I dont have any. wait.. maybe i do. I earned 49 lindens a few days ago and they should be in my account by now. who knows... Maybe I'll check later.

I'd be interested in Second Life if not for what I would consider shadier elements. If a brand new game that was basically Second Life from scratch I'd be willing to join in.
