Thought I'd start a new up to date thread.

The season for planting is here - at least it is here in Scotland! So what have you decided to grow this summer in 2010? Where abouts are you? Trying anything new this year?

There seems to be loads of 'grow your own' type programmes appearing on the TV lately, I think gardening might be becomming fashionable !!!

This year I have more tomatoes than ever! I got given a 8'x12' greenhouse (free for the uplift), so going to get it up and going soon, and fill it with things that won't ripen outdoors here in Scotland, which I think is 'zone 8' in US terms.

    Tomato's and other stuff indoors;

    Lemon Tree
    Vintage Wine
    Black Cherry
    Minibel
    Red pear
    Marlglobe
    Gardeners Delight
    Red Cherry
    Yellow Perfection
    Beefsteak
    Roma

    Jalapeno peppers
    Aubergine (Moneymaker)
    Courgette (Ambassador)
    Cucumber
    Sweetcorn
    Basil
    Pumpkin (Hundredweight)

    Outdoors;
    Leeks (Musselburgh)
    Onions (Stuttgarten Giant)
    Lettuce (Iceberg)
    Watercress
    Pea (Early Onward)
    Potato (Kerrs Pink)

    Raspberries
    Blackcurrants
    Gooseberries
    Blueberries

If I get the greenhouse up soon I'm going to get a grape vine for it, and try the Olive tree I bought today in a pot inside so I can move it for the winter.

well if i had my druthers i would be growing the usual veggies here and there, but the one plant i find that i am best at growing is marijuana. I honestly dont think all this bitching and moaning going on about medical mj is worth it. its the safest plant or medecine in the pdr.maybe its not for you or yours,ok thats fair enough but what about people that are honestly trying to keep chronic pain down? maybe they are battling cancer et etch. cant the last few people in these states sit down and discus this without billy bob and his lezbo
mother line of thought invades me in my little world?

    beefsteak tomatoes
    cherry tomatoes
    snapdragons
    california poppies
    zinnias
    four boxwood bushes
    two lavender bushes
    petunias

    i can't remember the rest.

also, i've been growing hundreds of different flowers in the greenhouse at my school recently.
downside, i don't get to keep the bulk of them... but i do get compensated!
my school is holding a mothers day plant sale, and i'll be paid for working the sale, plus a little extra since i'm mostly responsible for growing the plants.

I planted sweet 100 cherry tomatoes, Big Boy tomatoes, Better Boy tomatoes, cucumbers and Sugar Baby watermelons this afternoon.

I plan to go back to the nursery around Wednesday and buy more plants to replace the ones that the rabbits are probably going to eat as soon as the sun comes up.

I read everyones list and think if only we were all closer together and could crop share, between all of us there would not be much missing. :)

You know, you're living in Ontario, so you can grow a bunch of stuff that's hard for me here (or impossible). Seaberry and currants come to mind first of all. I've got a gooseberry plant that's never made gooseberries, for instance too, probably 'cause it gets too hot here too fast. And even apples ... grow better where you're at than here.

What with all of us spread out across the WORLD like we are, the hard thing, if we wanted to trade, would be the SHIPPING. That's even hard for seeds, if there's an ocean in between. And plants ... that shipping gets expensive fast.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a sort of hostel group ... so when you want to travel, you can go stay with another gardener? But you can see there could be problems with that.

... just a thought ... every place has its strengths and weaknesses. People from other areas might think this one was really good ... but here, the ticks and chiggers are REALLY a big problem. Last night I took a bath ... little teensy ticks dug into my legs and various unmentionable places.

And about those Ticks... I don't know how bad they're going to be this year because they haven't really come out yet, but last year they were the worst I've ever seen them. We had 'em EVERYWHERE. I hope there aren't that bad this year. The creep me out. I hate parasites. ick.
