I sometimes wish I'd kept mine, but since I was born with the other one, I can still use it if I want. as an alias.
I dislike my last name a lot!! I am glad to change it when I get married in 2 weeks! My great grandpa changed his last name bc he was ashamed, so I would have to say he picked an crappy last name to replace an cool one just bc he was ashamed of being jewish.
a whole street?...wow my ancestors have a 10,000+ hectare national protected conservation forest named after them I win :coffee:
Mine is different and the genesis is hard to track. Probably because my ancestors were always too drunk to remember how to spell it.
I like my current name because even though I'm a thin white woman, a black football player has the exact same name. Occasionally, I just say, "Oh, it's a family name," if someone says, "You know there's a football player with your name!" No one appreciates my stupid humor. But I'd give it up when I get married, sure.
There was a King of Scotland that had my last name and from the pictures I've seen of him he looked like a complete idiot and he only reigned for a couple months... so judging by that, I'm pretty sure he is an ancestor.
Growing up and into my early 20s I swore I would never change my last name if I got married because it's pretty nice sounding and not common at all. Well, I got married and decided that if I would take my husbands last name so that when we have kids we would all have the same last name. His last name is different too and it works with my first name but.........it's not the same. I think that it would be weird for me to go back to my maiden name randomly while I am still married but if things didnt work out I think I'd go back to it and keep it for the rest of my life.
