There's nothing sarcastic about that quote, it's a fact. It's a fact about a sarcastic situation, but it was not plato using sarcasm, it's just the nature of the situation he was commenting on.

Sources plox. I never heard that about most psychologists and sarcasm.

you're right there is nothing sarcastic about the quote itself; but that's the point...

...maybe it was just most of my psychologists, though I do vaguely remember my psychology professer mentioning something similar during our course on Erikson... perchance it is an older theory... But to me it makes sense, because sarcasm is "fun" to use simply because it is way that allows you to sound cool or funny, or empathetic (when you're really not), as well as allowing you the ability to hide your true feelings towards someone or something.

For example, here is a quote from a person on another forum about the very subject of why they use sarcasm: "we enjoy sarcasm because it's a polite way of telling someone that you don't like them." Of course that's only one person's reason to use sarcasm. Another reason may be a personal insecurity (i.e. its a polite way of telling people {or hinting at...} what you don't like about yourself, without having to be direct.) It could even be "a polite way of telling someone what you don't like about the situation, without sounding like you're wanting to rip everyone's heads off...)

I think everybody uses Sarcasm from time to time; sometimes perchance without even being completely aware of it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think "all" sarcasm is a bad thing. But I also don't think "all" sarcasm is good either.

Sarcasm when it is used to cover up your own insecurities, or to hurt or oppress another would be one of those types that are "wrong", in my opinion. Sarcasim can be a great thing when it points out funny little obvious truths that are quite often over looked. It can brighten up horrificly ironic situatons, and just makeslife a little more fun (or interseting) somtimes. But sarcasm can also be cynical, and innapropriate and hurtful. I think that anyone that uses any form of Sarcasm should assess situations and decide what and/or when sarcasim is appropriate.

first, yes we also have church and state seperated, and its really up to the priest wether to marry two of the same gender ore not. won`t change the fact that there will be debates over it, ateism is quite big here in sweden, if you ask any random person if they belive in god in most cases they say they belive in something but not god.

i do agree whit you on the second quote, attraction is not everything, you can`t base a relationship on it, but for me its the final desiding factor in things, i want a person i have lots of things incomon whit ore someone who atleast would respect me and waht i am, someone that make you feel safe and just love you fore the one you are and everything that meens,so far i haven`t meet anyone that match this and i still can feel okej whit having a fysical relationship to so im saying attraction IS inportent but a relationship shouldn?t be build around it:)

    and at last:)
its okej im not offended at all you need to ask these things to understad right?:p
i`ve already thought about this gender confusion for years and im still having doubts, i don`t have the money for such an operation and the pain it will cause scares me,i don`t like hospitals and im afraid of that after the surgerys would be done i regrett it so im not planing on going through anything like it at the moment even if im about 90% of the time Feel like a man in a womens body and don`t like the body and face in the mirror.
but i am considering to bind my breast and try living as a man during a year to see if that will make me more comfteble in my body.
one of the major resons two my confusion is cuse i want to be intimet whit others as a man whit male organs but it freaks me out thinking of doing this as a women. :( this can be for nurmuros resons but i belive it might be becuse of me being more male then female and some serten things that happend to me in my past that renderd me more "critical" to female sex. XP
atleast thats where my thoughts are at the moment so...^.^

Ok, you're learned. We get the idea. I have a psychology professor too, and frankly, I don't beleive a damn word she says.

There is no one reason for most people to use sarcasm, it's a mixture. I'm sure I've used it defensivley before, but that's not generally how I use it, for me it's a method of making light.

Freud says: You feel the need to attack sarcasm and it's users because you wish you had such a big throbbing sarcasm ;)

Depends on whose dick I am sucking. If it is my ex-boyfriend's then probably not. Also, I have eaten some pretty strange things in my life: giblets, cow's tongue, squirrell, rabbit, snake, mutton stew (<<well it was foreign to me); but I don't think I'd ever eat a dick. And as far as "Shutting The F Up", you don't have to read anything I write, there is a button that closes the browser, and also most computers have an off button, something I think I need to get more accustomed to using, but hey I'm an internet junkie, lol.

Oh you meant shutting the F up while I "ate" a p***s well, been there done that, and will be doing it again with my more-than-a-friend tomorrow... or at least I plan to, though he doesn't know it yet.

(Don't know why i felt like doing that. Just in a "cock"y mood, I guess.)

It wouldn't bother me if he was loyal. What he masturbates to (as long as it is consenting adults) I don't care about, as long as I don't have to be involved. I don't like MMF threesomes or things like that, but that's me.

Shrug, being a bi girl has it's own issues. Just like people think bi guys are actually gay and can't come all the way out of the closet, people assume that bi girls are actually straight and just playing at bi to turn guys on. Everyone seems to think that everyone is obsessed with cock. It's kinda annoying, but also kinda funny, considering we live in a society that idolizes/fetishizes the female form so much.

Takes two to tango. We have sexual being. To be obsessed with anything implies disproportionate investment.

I have a female bi friend, and we have discussed this before. Since we pretend to be great philospophical thinkers we actually discussed the perplexity of how strange it is for straight guys to think that girls kissing are doing it for their benefit, but that when two guys kiss you rarely get the same reaction from straight females. I don't know if its a genetic thing, or cultural thing, or what, but it is interesting. The only thing I've ever that nearly meets the mark here is when I was kissing one of my dates, and one of my straight friends said "You better stop that, you guys are making me horny." To which I just laughed, and said "My intent was never to make you horny."

I just think these quotes from Candy Cooler on page 2 sum up my feelings.
